Getting Up To Speed: Films in Theaters I've seen since last update

The Summer Movie season is upon us so it's time to close the door on Winter and Spring by recapping the films I saw, and the ratings I gave em. Roll it!

Advenutreland (7 out of 10)

From the trailers I was expecting a laugh out loud comedy in the mold of Superbad and Waiting...; but it was nothing of the sort. It was actually a very serious teen film with real issues. My problem was Jesse Eisenberg, he's a poor man's Michael Cera and I hated how Ryan Reynolds was casted as an asshole. Very hard to do. Still though good movie, just wasn't what I expected.

Bride Wars (3/10)

Had its moments of laughter. But wow this movie makes women look like selfish wedding whores. That's why I sometimes have feelings that it would be best to never get married. Also, is Kate Hudson capable of being in a really good movie?

Coraline (6/10)

Entertainment Weekly was giving this movie an A, and other critics were saying this was the "WALL-E of 2009", bull shit. This movie was good but very creepy and the story dragged through parts. The Real3D was fun though.

Fast & Furious (7/10)

I was excited to see this with the original cast back. The very first Fast & The Furious back in 2001 was great. This one was solid, but not worthy of the box office numbers. That opening weekend came out of nowhere to shock the hell out of me. Good movie just unbelivable as all hell.

Friday the 13th (8/10)

Very cool remake to a horror classic. And wow was there not a lot of breasts being exposed in this film? Awesome movie.

He's Just Not That into You... (7/10)

Chick flick to the core. The problem with this movie is that it is so damn long. I like the concept of all these stories meshing together to create one film. Very unique and you see Bradley Cooper manhandle Scarlett Johanssen. Cool!

I Love You, Man (8/10)

Paul Rudd and Jason Segal teammed up in the latest "Bromance" (yeah I know that word is annoying as hell but what else was I gonna say?) film where Rudd is about to get married yet he has no one to be his best man because he has always had women as his friends. It's a funny movie, but not nearly as funny as other projects these two fine actors have done (Role Models, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). What really bothered me in this movie was Jon Favreau and Jamie Pressley. Their characters were being called, "Scene Stealers" but I thought they were annoying as hell.

Knowing (4/10)

First part of the movie really good. Second part was solid, and the last 30 minutes or so what the hell just took place?

Miss March (4/10)

A film that should have been made back in 1998. Playboy has no big appeal to people anymore. Everyone has been exposed to some of the raunchiest things imaginable so Playboy really has no lure to it anymore. The two lead actors who played as best friends en route to finding the mansion came off as shitty actors who for the most part were not funny. Craig Robinson on the other hand, terrific as usual. And the chick the two dudes were hunting down was hot as tits man.

Observe & Report (10/10)

Seth Rogen's best acting performance, hands down. What a film. Another movie where I made assumptions going in thinking it would be this raunchy laugh-filled movie but really it goes deep into this character, Ronnie Barnhart (Rogen) who's this bi-polar mall guard who is practically a ticking time bomb who comes up with all this illusions in his mind. He has real issues and all these characters have substance to them. Jody Hill the director of this film is know established as one of my favorite men in Hollywood. The Foot Fist Way, Eastbound & Down on HBO, now this. It's safe to say I will be seeing anything this guy puts out.

Obsessed (3/10)

I will admit I was intrigued to see this movie which is currently #1 in the box office but wow was it awful. You can watch the trailer and you've practically seen all the key parts to the movie. It's a sorry film, and Beyonce is a bad actor.

Slumdog Millionaire (10/10)

Great film. Lived up to all the hype and was very worthy of the oscars it received. Just an amazing film. Although I must say the scene where the kid lands in the shit is disturbing and makes you want to vomit.

Watchmen (7/10)

Very cool movie, but not as great as other comic book stories that have went to the big screen as of late. Practically follows the story of the Watchmen in its entirety, which was cool to see. The problem I had with this movie was the "heroes" were in essence not good people who you wanted to root for, although I must say "The Comedian" was a bonafide badass.

It's been awhile since I posted. And I apologize for that. But I'm still watching movies. Here is a list of films that I have seen on DVD since my last update.

Changeling (9 out of 10)

Clint Eastwood knows how to make amazing movies. This one, I took a flyer on at Redbox and it was great from start to finish. Such a sad story, and Angelina Jolie proved yet again she is an amazing actress. Great film.

Doubt (7/10)

Another Oscar nominated film that I was curious to see. Doubt had an interesting plot, but there were times in the movie where it was really boring. Merryl Streep though was very impressive along with Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Fool's Gold (1/10)

Terrible. Just terrible. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson should never do a film together again.

Horton Hears a Who! (7/10)

I was really intrigued by the cast for this one. Jim Carrey was really good as the voice of the soft and gentle Horton. Steve Carrell's worried Mayor of the Whos fit him well and it was a surprisingly good film.

Hot Rod (9/10)

Being someone who loves Comedy this was a movie I always wanted to see but always forgot to watch it. Finally rented it, and it was so random and awesome that I couldn't stop laughing from it. The stars of this film are of course two of the guys from the band, "The Lonely Island".

Nights In Rodanthe (4/10)

This was seen with my girlfriend so give me some slack. Richard Gere is usually a dang good actor so I didn't mind, and Diane Lane is a hot Cougar. It was pretty bad though, not nearly as good as The Notebook. The reason I compare Rodanthe to the Notebook is because the novels are written by the same author. Boring film that drags. Don't waste your time.

Over Her Dead Body (6/10)

Paul Rudd was in it I found out so I decided to dabble. Eva Longoria-Parker is Rudd's wife who recently died. Rudd though has to started to fall in love with this supposed psychic in Lake Bell but Longoria does everything she can to get rid of her. It's a surprisingly okay film, I was expected some made for TV garbage.

Still Waiting... (3/10)

Why was this even made? The first one was a classic and STILL is a classic. This should have never been made. It had some moments where you found yourself laughing, but trying to see shy Calvin from the first one as this big-time restaurant owner just didn't work for me and it was a piece of crap straight to DVD release.

The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2/10)

Another horror movie that was PG-13 and it gives you more laughs than chills. Piss poor ending too.

The Rocker (7/10)

Rainn Wilson relives his old rocker glory days touring with his nephews friends band en route to rock n roll success. Solid film, and completely surpassed my expectations.

The Wrestler (7/10)

I guess the hype hurt my view of this movie. There was so much hype around this thing, that I was expecting something epic and genre-changing. All I saw was a lonely old dude chasin down a stripper and cutting himself with blades in the ring. Now granted, it was still solid but Oscar worthy? Nuh uh. How it was filmed I really enjoyed but this movie was nowhere near the hype it received.

Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins (7/10)

I've always liked Martin Lawrence but lately it seems like I've been witnessing the end for Martin with the type of films he has been in. So its safe to say I had to expecations of Welcome Home. Surprisingly a good movie, with some fun laughs and overall just a fun cheesy story that shows you to appreciate your family more.

Push Review: Shut the hell up Dakota Fanning

Rating: PG-13

Plot: Two people with amazing super-human talents, Nick Gant (Evans) and Cassie Holmes (Fanning) need to find a girl who is like them before a group called, "Division" gets her.

What I Liked: Going into this movie, I had some excitement for it. It looked like a cool concept with the super-human abilities and all these wickidly cool fighting scenes; and the movie did have cool talents for these characters.

Enjoyed the backdrop of Hong Kong as the setting for the film. It was really cool. Always been very fascinated with Hong Kong. I also enjoyed the strategy in the film. I really am drawn to movies that involve some strategic strategy to them. This was kind of like a race to get this super-human chick that could change people's opinions and thoughts. She even beat the hell out of some dude at a restaurant bathroom and had him turn the gun on his co-hort. Pretty badass stuff.

Camilla Belle is the girl that Evans and Fanning are on the prowl for; and she is pretty hot.

What I Hated: Dakota Fanning. Pretty plain and simple there. I've always hated this kid growing up, but I had some hope that she has gotten out of her annoying ass stage but she still hasn't. Her drawings kept annoying the hell out of me, and her little skank outfits as a 13 year old? Her character as Cassie Holmes was terrible on all accounts. Also, the deal with her mother was never resolved in this film. Which I hated very much. But Dakota Fanning is about to join the Brendan Fraser list to me. And that means avoiding her films at all costs.

I didn't like Chris Evans' performance in this movie. I liked him in the original Fantastic 4 movie (not the sequel) but this one it was uninspiring. I felt like I was going through the motions with these characters and even confused at times. I didn't get caught up in the story at all. It was too long as well which hurts, when its a movie that is geared to emotion and deep thinking.

Would I purchase this on DVD? No. But I would suggest maybe a rental for this movie, or wait till it hits the movie channels. If your a Heroes fan you might get a kick out of this movie. The plot had promise but it jumps around so much that you can't get yourself fully entrenched in this thing and your bored and happy its over when it finally is over. But if your hardup for a movie and want to kill time, this could be a valid option.

The Uninvited left me Unimpressed

Starring: Emily Browning, Arielle Kebbel, Elizabeth Banks, David Straithairn
Rating: PG-13

Plot: Anna Rydell (Browning) comes home after recovering from time spent in a mental hospital due to blaming herself for the death of her mother. Anna's time at home has changed with her dad's new girlfriend around (Banks), and continuing dreams of trying to figure how the death of her mother happened.

What I Liked: Three hot chicks in Browning, Kebbel, and Banks were easy on the eyes thats for sure; and were one of the few bright spots in the film. I like the mystery concept behind Anna and her sister's attempt to try and peg their future new step-mom that she has killed before.

What I Hated: The ending. Such an un-rewarding ending. Let's just say its one of those psycho type endings that leaves ya with a big twist at the end. Its so pathetic, and ridiculous and makes you regret even spending the time to watch the damn thing. Other horror films have been very good with this kind of ending, but this movie with how poor it was needed a payoff; you didn't get that at all.

Didn't like Banks' character it was so cheesy how she acted in this film. Just piss poor acting from everyone and there is literally nothing scary about this movie. NOTHING. It honestly should of been PG. Just another stupid PG-13 horror to add to the library along with The Unborn.

Would I purchase this on DVD? Absolutely not! I wouldn't even suggest this on Redbox or a rental. Your going to rent it for scary thrills and a cool story. Doesn't deliver on either accounts. If you want some good eye candy though; its okay. Emily Browning has a scene in her bra and panties which is alright and Arielle Kebbel is in a bikini but you can see that in the trailer. Don't waste your time on this piss poor production.

Gran Torino is phenomenal and proves why Clint Eastwood is still badass.

Rating: R

Plot: Former war veteran, Walter Kowalski (Eastwood) sets out to change things in his neighborhood. Starting with a Hmong boy who attempted to steal his prized Ford Gran Torino.

What I Liked: I loved this movie from start to finish. It was amazing. I really liked the actors around Eastwood, not necessarily for their acting abilities, because those were sub-par but for the real vibe they brought to the screen. It felt like a disgruntled neighborhood that had been consumed by gangs, with the lonely war vet trying to stir things up.

I really liked the classic man conversations between Walter and his barber Martin (John Carroll Lynch, The Drew Carey Show). It made you realize, how cool it would of been to live in a simplier time and less up-tight society. Now-a-days people would be offended by the type of convos Walter had with Martin. I took it as fun guy talk. Male commroditery you could say.

This movie, shows what a difference one person can make when trying to help others, or become more understanding. And, friendships can happen in the most unusual ways.

What I Hated: Hated the gangs for one in this movie. They were your typical up-to-no-good individuals who get consummed by pointless garbage. Walter's family was not very appealing especially his grand-daughter, good god. What an annoying brat. Belly shirt to a funeral for your grandma? C'mon you little tramp.

Didn't like the music selections to the film either. Just very bland, and didn't bring anything to the table for me.

Would I purchase this on DVD? Absolutely. This film was outstanding. Best movie I have seen in 2009 thus far. Just an amazing story. Might offend people, but you can understand it coming from a character with his Korean War background. Clint Eastwood is just downright amazing. A living legend in every sense of the term.

USELESS FACTS

- Had a limited release in December 2008, making it eligible for the Oscars. Totally confused as to why this film was not nominated for Oscars. Nationwide release came January 9th.

- Clint Eastwood calls this movie an oddball story.

- Takes place in Detroit, Michigan. Which makes sense when the movie title is about a Ford vehicle. Its one of the few positive bits of pub from the car industry lately.

Taken is the first surprise hit of 2009

Starring: Liam Neeson, Maggie Grace
Rating: PG-13

Plot: Liam Neeson plays Bryan Mills a former CIA spy who is an overprotective dad, that goes to France to save his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace) who has been kidnapped and sold into the world of sex trafficking.

What I Liked: Had no expectations of this film going into it. I just remember the trailer with the whole phone conversation that had Liam Neeson saying he had all these skills that he was going to use to kick some ass on the guys who took his daughter away. But I went out with an overall liking of this movie. The whole story was action-packed, and you felt like Bryan Mills was this real person who had this genuine love, and passion for his daughter that he has let down in the past.

The story of sex trafficking was unique in and of itself. The movie showed the terrible things that go on with this kind of behavior. It was a bold movie to say the least for a PG-13 rating. I'm very surprised this movie didn't get a R rating.

There isn't much that you won't like from this movie.

What I Hated: Kim's mother, Lenore played by Famke Janssen. Lenore was Bryan Mills' ex-wife. She was a total bitch to Bryan. But when her daughter gets kidnapped. Please help Bryan and bring her back home safely! Kiss my ass! Characters like that, I have always hated in film.

Didn't like towards the end of the movie, where it seemed like the story was going to go on and on. It felt like there was no end in sight at times. There's a particular scene where you feel that Bryan is going to finally get his daughter and then it takes a step back. Just didn't like the length it took to get developed. But it wasn't anything significant to dock the positive overall vibe of the film.

Would I purchase this on DVD? The answer would be yes. This would be a very good addition to anyone's DVD collection and I would highly suggest it.

- Liam Neeson is not your most attractive actor but he is one hell of a action man.

But I haven't stopped watching movies. I have nine reviews for newly released movies. I'm going to post in order from when I saw them, so it will include some January releases.

Going to do a little bit different format as well to make the reviews even more reader friendly.

Kevin James gives a belivable performance in Paul Blart: Mall Cop

REVIEW

Kevin James broke onto the entertainment scene in the hillarious sitcom, King of Queens. The series lasted nine seasons, and one of the main reasons it lasted so long was James' hillarious role as Doug Heffernan. James' role as Heffernan is the type of character people love with James. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry alongside Adam Sandler wasn't as good as many had hoped, mainly due in part to James' more serious role in the movie as Larry. James' character in this family comedy, Paul Blart is a mix of both. He has a sentimental side like his role in Chuck & Larry, but he's that funny guy we all loved in Queens.

This is the second Happy Madison movie to come out in the last month. Bedtime Stories was the other. The Happy Madison guys apparently are looking to make bank in the family market. Especially since their R-rated films have had a tendency to tank in the box office; Strange Wilderness, Grandma's Boy. This is a great movie for families. This is actually the first kids movie other than Wall-E that literally has no underlying innuendos, and suggestive themes. Its just good, wholesome fun for families.

The movie is set up with James' character, Paul Blart trying out for a spot on the New Jersey Police Department. He is having a great try-out but all of sudden crashes to the ground and falls asleep. Blart has a disease that if he doesn't have sugar in his body he falls asleep, called hypoglycemia. It was pretty funny.

Blart lives at home with his mom and daughter. They try to keep his spirits up by remaining positive and telling him to get his mind off of things by maybe go out and try to find a woman to spend time with for the holidays. It was Thanksgiving, and it was established that Blart's previous wife and mother to his daughter fled years ago and has never been seen once. Blart has been hesistant to get back out on the market because he's not confident in himself. His weight, looks, and his job to him don't make him a viable catch to the fairer gender.

So since Blart couldn't achieve his goal of joining the New Jersey Police force, he goes back to his duties as the Mall Cop at West Orange Pavilion Mall. He took his job very serious, especially in preparation for the biggest shopping day of the year, "Black Friday" approaching.

Blart tried to make himself feel like a real cop by issuing citations for people driving rascals too fast or disrupting walking traffic but he was never taken seriously.

Blart was also helping train a new employee in Veck Sims played by O'Donnell (Wedding Crashers). While Blart was the definition of professionalism for his job, Sims was just a high school dropout who had nothing else going for him and didn't care to be there.

While Blart is training Sims and getting him ready for what would happen on "Black Friday" Blart sees this girl at a hair extensions kiosk he hasn't seen before, and of course like any children's film he is instantly in love. At first he's afraid to talk to her but then he gets the courage, by acting like he wants to by some hair extensions. Her name was Amy (Jayma Mays, Ugly Betty) and she was very nice to him, and put a smiley face on his receipt. Paul instantly fell even more in love and when she invited him to go to the mall employees holiday get together, he was excited.

Flash forward to when "Black Friday" takes place; the day is over and the mall is closing down. Before Blart helps close down the mall he is in the arcade playing a game of Rock Band. While this is going on, some criminals take over the mall and hold it hostage with Blart in it. Blart gets drift of this and rather than take police orders and evacuate the mall, its his mission to help save the mall and all the people left in it that the criminals are holding hostage.

It's a funny story, and quite original. It was written by King of Queens writer Nick Bakay. You probably remember Bakay as Salem in the t.v. series, Sabrina The Teenage Witch. This movie was really enjoyable, it is what it is. Of course, its going to have some stuff that is unrealistic but its a family comedy. But don't let that fool you, James has some funny lines and scenes in the movie. One scene in particular stood out where James get bombed at the work holiday get-together and he starts barking at this punk-ass dude at a pen store, with about four beers in his hands. I couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes after that scene came on.

Blart is a lovable character that you will find yourself pulling for to succeed. It's a fun film, and if your a Happy Madison fan this won't disappoint you. Like all of the Happy Madison films it has guys like Alan Covert in it. You will recognize all the cameos.

This will be a movie, I invest in when it comes out on DVD.

USELESS FACTS

- For two straight weeks, Blart has taken home the #1 spot in the box office. There's a good chance it could be three weeks with no real blockbusters coming out this upcoming weekend.

- The movie is shot at Burlington Mall in Massachusetts.

- This movie was the sponsor for NBA on ABC games on Christmas Day. One of those games, was Celtics vs. Lakers. This film definitely had a lot of air time to the public, and was ingrained in peoples minds.

- Blart drives a segway in the movie.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D is a Cool Slasher Film

REVIEW

My Bloody Valentine is a re-make of the 1981 film with the same title. The trailers leading up to the release of this movie really got my attention with the 3-D aspect and the hillarious line delivered by the voice-over guy. "Nothing says date move like a 3-D ride to HELL!"

Didn't have any expectations really for this movie, I was mainly excited for the 3-D experience side of this film.

To see this movie it cost more than usual. An extra $1.50 at my theater, here in Salt Lake City. That cost was due to the 3-D experience of course and the cool Real D Glasses you get. They have a Ray Ban feel to them, and they are really comfortable to wear.

The trailers were in 2-D, but a trailer for the film, Coraline was in 3-D and right away it looked really good. The picture was very crisp and you felt like they were in reaching distance from you. So you feel like your in the movie. Made me that much more antsy for Bloody Valentine to get rolling and see what kind of stuff would appear on screen.

The movie finally came on and right away the 3-D was pretty cool to see on the screen. The film emphasized the appearance of objects being flown towards you. Really cool. In scenes that were dark it was hard to notice the 3-D element, but all in all the picture was really good in 3-D, and it helps you get caught in the movie more.

As for the movie itself, it takes place in a small mining town in rural America. There was a horrific tragedy that took place there 10 years ago on Valentine's Day involving a miner who went on a killing spree in the mine. It was revealed that the killer was a miner, Harry Warden, who shortly after the killings died himself. Well 10 Valentines later, Warden lives on and has this small mining town all worried for their safety with the possibility being murdered by the mining psycho.

The cast in this movie is really solid. Its not your usual slasher film in terms of the selection on the cast. Usually slasher films always have some high school teenagers, and there isn't much depth to those characters. The people in MBV, are all grown adults with lives and jobs, etc. Tom Hanniger is the main guy played by Jensen Ackles. Tom saw the Warden killing spree 10 years ago, and after that fleed the small mining town to never been seen again. He comes back after he gains control of the mine with his father passing. Tom's intent is to sell the mine and close down operations.

Then there's Sarah and Axel Palmer played by Jaime King and Kerr Smith respectively. Sarah was a high school sweetheart with Tom, and Axel is now the town sherriff and never liked Tom back in High School and was disturbed to see him back in town; and concerned at the possibility Tom might try to get back with Sarah.

After the characters are established, that's when the killings start taking place and the mystery gets going. The movie has a lot of twists and turns and will keep you guessing as to who actually is actually the killer.

Some of the killings in this movie, were pretty graphic but to me a slasher film needs to be that. In one scene you see the miner throw the pick directly into a bald man's head and all this blood comes gushing everywhere. Graphic? Yes. Bonafide badass in 3-D? You betcha!

Go see this movie. I'm contemplating seeing the original 1981 film. From what I have read online, it's not the same plot, so it would be intriguing to see what the original was all about.

I don't know if I would purchase this on DVD, because the 3-D element of this movie gives it some better reviews that it actually would. But go see it in theaters for a cool experience.

Notorious is a "Juicy" Look at Biggie Smalls' Life

REVIEW

In the early part of the 90s, when the infamous feud between West Coast rappers and East Coast was going on, I wasn't old enough to know what was going on. I wasn't even listening to rap at that time. When this decade rolled around, I started getting more and more into Hip-Hop and Rap. Notorious B.I.G. Greatest Hits albums is one of my favorites to this day. His rhymes, lyrics, and beats are some of the best I have ever heard from the Rap genre. So you can probably expect I had some strong interest to get a better feel for what the life of Biggie Smalls was like.

Before his days as the well-known rapper, Notorious B.I.G. was Christopher Wallace living with his single mother who was going to school still so she could get her post-graduate degree. They lived in a rough part of New York, and Christopher was sheltered by his mother to avoid him from getting into stuff that could get him in trouble.

Even with his sheltered mother, Christopher always wanted to write rhymes and some raps. But Christopher let that dream die when he was in High School, when he started dealing drugs for quick cash. He wasn't going to school and when he actually did he was just mocking his teachers. His mother was furious with him and kicked him out, and forced him to find his own way. In the midst of all this turmoil, Biggie got a chick knocked up. So instead of hittin' the text books, he opted to hit some other stuff. If you get my drift.

Biggie kept dealing drugs, as a way to provide for his future child. But he was busted by the cops one day and got booked into jail for a year. That's where he starts writing all of the lyrics and mastering his rapping style. With all that time on your hands in prison, might as well do that to kill some time.

Biggie gets out of jail and even though he has wrote a bunch of raps, he still hits the streets dealin' until one day when some other drug dealer who thought he claimed this corner wanted to have a rap-off for the corner. Biggie kicked his ass in the rap-off and from then on was determined to become a rapper. He would record with his boys that he dealt with, and they would take sample tapes to studios. Enter Sean "Puffy" Combs.

Combs, a.k.a. P. Diddy, Diddy or whatever you wanna call him was a producer and liked Biggie's style but he didn't like how Biggie was dealing drugs and working out in the streets.

Biggie stays loyal to Diddy. And the movie takes off showing the musical career of Notorious B.I.G.

It was a really interesting film. Showed that if you stay loyal to your dreams you can achieve it. I also took it as, be careful who you choose as your friends. This is a problem with a lot of Professional Athletes and musical artists; they have these "possies" and its usually not the type of people that are doing the right thing. And the person with all the fame and glory will take the fall for these acts.

This movie was a good biopic on the life of Biggie Smalls. Showed him in a good light too. Yeah he had his issues, but at the end of the day the guy was a good man with good intent, and his raps were terrific.

The cast of this movie was terrific. When doing biopics on famous people, you always want to see actors/actresses that resemble the actual people and this cast really did. Faith Evans and Biggie looked like the real thing. Naturi Naughton did a great job as Lil' Kim. The movie made Kim look like a little slut to Biggie, but it worked well haha.

The only person who didn't look or act anything like the actual person was Anthony Mackie playing Tupac Shakur. I just wasn't feeling that at all. He was a terrible Tupac, and he was a little bitch. It was one of the downparts of the movie.

All in all, pleasantly surprised with this movie. It was much better than I expected it to be. Hope to see more rap biopics down the road, they usually turn out to be good movies. Get Rich or Die Tryin' being another rap biopic that was good and 8 Mile. Go check this out if you get a chance. Its a movie that all kinds of people can enjoy wether you like rap or not, but your going to enjoy it more if you have a strong interest in the rap scene.

- The actual Lil Kim is furious with the actress who played her in the film. Says she is going to pull out the real story and expose everyone. LINK

- In its opening weekend, this film grossed $25 Million. This past weekend dropped off significantly though only grossing close to $6 Million which was 10th best for the weekend.

- Jamal Woolard gained over 100 pounds so he could land this role as Biggie Smalls.

The Unborn Should Have Never Been Born

When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was honestly thinking this might actually be a real horror movie. The trailer looked scary and Odette Yustman has that Megan Fox (Transformers) kind of feel about her which doesn't hurt either.

The movie is centered around Yustman who plays Casey Beldon. A college-aged girl who is having these dreams about a glove, a kid, and a crazy looking mask. She doesn't think much of these dreams until it starts affecting her every day life where she is having these freaky flashes in class and this mysterious kid keeps showing up.

At this point of the movie I'm actually intrigued but it goes down hill when Casey has one of her eyes turning into an odd color. She goes to see an eye specialist, and he says her eyes and vision are great. The coloring of her eye usually stems from being a twin. Casey always knew herself as a only child. She goes to her dad to ask if she is in fact a twin. Her dad fesses up and says that she is, and tells her that he died instantly when the two were born. Casey asked her dad what his name was, and her dad said they didn't have names yet for them but they had a nickname for her brother and it was "Jumby" the same name she had seen earlier in one of her flashes.

She starts realizing that this kid creepin her out in dreams, is her twin brother who is being possessed by some devil spirit.

From there the movie goes downhill. It has its moments where its scary but all in all your not creeped out, your just wondering when it will end. The whole movie is a sequence of dreams and flashes and a spin-off of The Exorcist. That's how I felt at least. And you see an old dude who is stuck in a wheelchair twist his head in a 360 degree circle. It was laughable at times.

I really thought with David S. Goyer, the writer of The Dark Knight this would of been an in-depth plot but it was terrible. I felt bad for Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) for having to be in such a mediocre project. He's usually in good movies, but this was a major let-down. (***Possible Spoiler***) The logic in this movie, just didn't make sense. Some girl just randomly goes up to some Greek Orthodox guy to do an Exorcism?(***End Spoiler***)

The horror genre is struggling now-a-days in my opinion. It peaked in the 70s and 80s, which you can call the glory years for horror but in the 90s and this decade, its rare to find a good horror. PG-13 horrors usually suffer in my opinion. R rated horrors tend to be better because they can do more that scares the audience.

The Unborn was a major disappointment. Hot cast though, that's about all it had going for them.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is a Work of Art

When seeing the trailers for Benjamin Button a few months ago, I was instantly interested by the concept of having life go backwards. It seemed really unique, and original. Something that you honestly don't see much anymore in today's movies. I usually don't see these kind of movies, but I went in with an open mind to see what looked to be a very interesting film.

Don't let the 166 minute length of this movie, scare you away from seeing it. Yeah it could of been shortened a bit, but to capture Pitt's character of Benjamin Button moving backwards, it worked and you hardly notice the time as your into the film so much.

Benjamin Button was abandoned by his biological father who was angered by Benjamin for causing his wife to die, and the fact he was essentially a mutant baby, who looked like he was ready to die. With the body of an old man.

Benjamin was abandoned by his father on a doorstep with some money in the basket at a senior citizen center. Taraji P. Henson who played Queenie saw Benjamin and from then on started taking care of him and played the role as mother. She does a great job, and watching you feel like she instantly loved this child regardless of all the problems this baby had, she took care of him with an open heart.

Then the movie just shows Benjamin Button's life as this person who ages backwards. Around the age of 7, Benjamin is introduced to this red-headed girl named Daisy who was visiting her grandma for Thanksgiving. Benjamin and Daisy were friends instantly, and Daisy saw the good in Benjamin and his youthful spirit, while everyone else just saw him as some old person like everyone else at the place. It was odd to think a 80 year-old dude had the hots for a 7 year-old girl but the intent was good.

Benjamin continues in this life to try and discover what all the world has to offer, and as he continues to age backwards. He gets a job on a boat, cleaning the ship and taking orders from this sexual bearded captain, who played Chuck Cedar on Mr. Deeds for those who are counting.

The movie is just really interesting to watch and the whole story is told from Daisy's daughter who was reading Benjamin's journal to Daisy at a hospital. Its a unique concept and a movie I didn't think I would like as much as I did.

Brad Pitt really is great in anything he plays in. The guy just has a knack for being great in movies, and putting these films over the top into the category of being classics. He's a terrific actor and the chemistry between him and Cate Blanchett seemed genuine and real. Terrific movie.

This movie was very deserving of the best picture award nomination for the Oscars. I would think it should come away the winner.

USELESS FACTS

- Nominated for 13 Oscars at yesterday's nominees ceremony. The most out of any other film. Slumdog Millionaire was second with 10.

- The movie takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana

- Originally Ron Howard was going to direct this movie with John Travolta as the lead role of Benjamin.

Bedtime Stories is a Great Family Film and Fun for Fans of Happy Madison

Bedtime Stories is the first Happy Madison movie to team up with Disney. I was really intrigued what they would do with Disney now in the fold on this project, and with Adam Sandler as the lead, I had some fairly high hopes for this kids movie, and it didn't disappoint.

Bedtime Stories is about Skeeter Bronson (Sandler) who is a janitor, fixer up kind of guy at one of the finest hotels in all of Los Angeles. His father once owned the hotel but sold it to a man who had more money, this was when Skeeter was a child though. When that sale took place Skeeter's father asked the man if he would hand the hotel over to Skeeter when the time was right, of course the man promised he would and 30 years later he never did.

Skeeter's sister, Wendy played by Courtney Cox who is a lot more serious than Skeeter and just recently lost her job is going out of town to apply for a new job and she needs Skeeter to watch her two kids, Skeeter's niece and nephew who happen to not like Skeeter very well.

Skeeter helps watch Wendy's kids in the evening while the day-sitter is Jill played by Keri Russell. Well before the kids go to bed they want to hear a bedtime story from their uncle. Skeeter tells them basically his own personal situation at that time, but the kids add their own outlandish comments as the tale goes on with Raining Gumballs and other random crap that kids say. Well the next day, driving home from work Skeeter has raining gumballs hitting his truck. He couldn't believe it and put 2 and 2 together that everything from the story came true.

From there, the next night he tells the kids a bedtime story about him getting a nice car and millions of dollars in cash thinking it will come true. Little does he know, only the stuff the kids say actually comes true.

Its a really good movie that is funny throughout and Sandler's character as Skeeter is hillarious. His best buddy in the movie is played by Russell Brand who is funny as well.

There are a few references to other Happy Madison projects, and all of Sandler's buddies as usual are in this film. It's a really fun movie, and great for a family to go see. I'm definitely planning on buying this when it comes on DVD. This tops Zohan as Sandler's best project in '08.

- Along with being the first Disney movie Happy Madison has done, its also the first PG movie.

- Sandler's beloved dog, Meatball has a cameo in the movie.

- This movie has had grossed more money at the Box Office than Oscar nominated Benjamin Button.

2 Hours Long?!?! Marley & Me Review

Dogs. Dogs are not man's best friend to Mitch Harper. Over the years, I've never been very fond of the "K-9" breed. Mainly because I was always being chased down through my neighborhood by one of the dogs who roamed our neighborhood, and I was bit once. So I've never been fond of dogs over the years.

Marley & Me is not the type of movie that would appeal to someone like me who doesn't like dogs, but trying to branch out my tastes for movies to better this blog, and the fact my girlfriend wanted to see it, I decided to take a gander. It didn't hurt that Frat Pack member Owen Wilson was in it as well.

So I go to the local cinema with my girlfriend to see it, and wow I was just bored out of my mind with this movie for awhile. There was one scene where Wilson's character John Grogan, is just reeling off his days of events with Marley. I honestly thought it would never end.

The whole movie till the end seems to go in this flow when Marley is into the family: Marley terrorizes the house, John is re-thinking what kind of job he wants as a Journalist, then cuts to if him and his wife (Anniston) want a kid or not. Over and over. For about two hours.

I hated Marley to be honest with you. That dog was an annoying asshole who never listened. Anyone that puts up with that kind of crap has issues. It didn't help that the theater I was at was about 80 degrees. It was hotter than hell in their and I had to see people crying over some dog. I just don't get the infatuation with dogs.

Not everything was bad about the movie, it had its moments where I enjoyed it and laughed. Mainly stuff from Wilson, but those moments were few and far between. It has a cute concept if your into dogs. If you don't like dogs you will not like this movie, hell I don't even think some dog lovers will enjoy it. Two hours for this film was not necessary at all. It dragged, and the ending in and of itself was odd to say the least.

- A total of 22 dogs were used to play Marley.

- The scenes at the "Sun Sentinel" and "Philadelphia Inquirer" newspapers were set on location.

It's been awhile since I last did an update, let's get up to speed with a few quick reviews on some movies I've seen since the last update.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who!

If you have been a regular reader of this blog you will probably know what drew my interest to this movie. Comedic voices like Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Will Arnett were in this film. Jim Carrey starred as Horton, and unlike his role in Yes Man, this role actually worked for Carrey.

This was a really cute movie, with some great visuals. Much better Dr. Seuss film than The Cat in the Hat which starred Mike Meyers.

It's amazing to think a little kids book can be made into a feature-length film, and it worked really well. Another good animation film in 2008. I couldn't stand the Kangaroo character at all. She was a total bitch who needed to get a glock busted out on her. Why wouldn't you believe lovable Horton? That dude wouldn't lie to anyone. Beat it Kanga!

Shoot 'Em Up

Remember the review on Smokin Aces I did over the summer? I made reference to my buddy suggesting that weak sauce film. Well that same guy suggested I watch Shoot 'Em Up. I ignored his advice for awhile, but it came up on Cinemax recently so I decided to dabble. Let's just say, Clive Owen is a bonafide badass.

Great action, cool story, and to top it off its freakin hillarious! Clive Owen's character, Smith gets pissed how people don't turn their blinker on when lane changing. He gets so pissed that he drives them off the road into a lightpole. LOL! Comedic gold.

It was a really cool movie. Paul Giamatii (Fred Claus) is really great in it too. I would suggest seeing it.

Sydney White

I've always been a fan of Amanda Bynes. Growing up I enjoyed watching the Amanda Show on Nickeloden where basically she played all of the characters. I also liked She's The Man and What a Girl Wants. Yeah I will admit it, they were actually good.

Sydney White, I had no idea what it was about. I saw it on tv, and decided to watch it because Bynes was in it. Another solid movie.

It's a modern-day story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In Sydney's (Bynes) case she is stuck with seven nerds at a house in college, called "The Vortex". Sydney was originally supposed to be at a Sorority, the same sorority that he mom was one of the leaders of back in the day. So she was a legacy, but she got booted for false stuff. These nerds take Sydney in, but their place the Vortex is crumbling and that sorority that booted Sydney out, wants to wipe out The Vortex to put in another facility for themselves. Right there, its Sydney's mission to get this group of geeks to take over the greek council and have control at the school. It's like a Revenge of the Nerds plot. Good movie.

Review: Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

For being such a comedy freak, I had never seen this movie. It was on HBO so I decided to give it a go and it was pretty damn funny! I don't know why I didn't watch this movie sooner.

I loved the cameo by Ben Stiller as the Guitar Center guy. It was such a belivable character because whenever you go to Guitar Center that kind of a guy is always there.

Kyle Gass goes along so well with Jack Black, and their music is pretty kick ass. I remember Gass from Elf but I haven't seen him in anything else. I'm interested to see more with him in it.

Really liked this movie. I'm definitely considering adding this one to the DVD collection next time I'm at Wal-Mart.

The Spirit Review: Expect a Comedy

Based on the comic book, written by Will Eisner. The Spirit was directed by Frank Miller who is most well known for Sin City and 300.

This latest project by Miller was not in the same ballpark as the other two.

Going in, I didn't know much about The Spirit other than the facts I mentioned above. I enjoyed Sin City and 300, so I thought I would give this a try. I had never read any of the comics or knew anything else about this character or story.

After watching the movie, and still to this day I don't quite understand what I watched, yet I still stayed intrested by the film. It was a weird plot, that was more of a comedy for his stupid one-liners and odd scenes. Such as one with Samuel L. Jackson who played the villain, "The Octopus" he was dressed up in a Nazi suit with a Adolf Hitler poster on the side and Nazi banners all around, with The Spirit tied up to a chair and Jackson went on to do a speech about god knows what.

It was filled with random, pointless, confusing crap like that.

Eva Mendes was Sand Seref a old fling of The Spirit's who was a criminal but at the same time was a good character. I couldn't figure it out. Again confusing non-sense. One thing I did figure out is that Eva Mendes looked hot as hell (pictured).

The Spirit himself, played by Macht; was okay I guess. His character was just ridiculous with the stupid lines and how he fell in love with every woman he saw. It was like Brick Tamland from Anchorman loving everything he saw except in The Spirit's case it was women and not carpet or lamps.

Other than that, I really have nothing else to say about the movie. There was a case to bring down The Octopus, manned up by The Spirit to protect his town, Central City. I guess that's the outline of the film; but again I couldn't honestly tell you after only one viewing.

If your into Sin City and 300 go see this, or superheroes in general. The movie kept me interested and I liked the visuals a lot but the story was so ridiculous and confusing that I would not want to see it again or highly recommend it to anyone.

USELESS FACTS

- The Spirit has bombed at the box office. Through two weeks in theaters with a Christmas Day release, The Spirit has reeled in $17.7 Million. Considering all the press for this and ads, that's a big bomb.

- The Spirit is wearing Chuck Taylor's. They are outlined in white the entire movie.

- Filmed on the University of New Mexico campus.

Yes Man Might of Been Good in the 90s

BACKGROUND

It seemed like Yes Man trailers had been in theaters for years how much it was being promoted. I'm not a huge Jim Carrey fan but I enjoyed Liar Liar back in the day so I figured that Yes Man would fit under the Liar Liar mold. Well it did, but I didn't find myself laughing.

Carrey plays Carl Allen a banker who is not willing to do anything since his divorce with Stephanie played by Molly Sims. Carl isn't even willing to go hang out with his best friends anymore, and that causes his friends to just give up on him and not give a damn.

One day eating lunch outside of his work, an old friend of Carl's who looks like a homeless bum approaches Carl and starts chatting with him. He goes on to explain how he has been doing these amazing things in his life, such as travelling the world and achieving these unreal feats like climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The homeless looking dude credited it all to a program called, "YES!" There was a convention to be held soon and the man invited Carl to give it a try.

Carl of course having nothing going on in his life decides to go, and when he leaves that convention abides to keep a covenant the motivational speaker told him to uphold. It was to say YES to everything. Don't let any opportunity go by the wayside.

Carl hesistant to keep this covenant gets things thrown at him right after leaving the convention that he usually would not do without any hesitation. But trying to live by the covenant he rolls with it. Him saying Yes to a few things leads him to Allison played by Deschanel.

Allison is this perky, young, full of life girl, the total opposite of Carl. The two start to build some strong feelings for one another, but things change when Allison finds out this whole time Carl has been abiding by a covenant. So she has no idea who he really is or not. Carl has to figure out a way to make things right.

REVIEW

This movie just didn't work for me. None of it was funny to me with the exception of a few parts. One that stood out was the drunken fight scene where Carrey tries to brawl with this massive dude over his chick. Everything else though was really 90s cliche. Just didn't strike any of my funny nerves and the relationship between Carrey and Deschanel was not belivable. He's 20 years older than her! I guess the director was trying to prove by saying Yes to everything it would lead to total opposites of Carl's regular life he knew before. I guess, but it didn't work for me.

Carrey just isn't funny anymore. I wasn't too high on any of his movies when I was younger except Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, and The Truman Show. Other than that, I couldn't bare to watch anything else of his.

Yeah he might have a rubber band face that can move any which way you'd like but it doesn't work anymore. Comedy has evolved since he was a box office king.

How this movie is a 7.3 rating at IMDB is beyond me. I have no idea what people are seeing in this one. I haven't been on the internet much at all since Christmas so I'm not sure what critics have said about this film, but it's a clear indicator to me that Carrey should stick with some thriller flicks or dramedy's. That's about it. Movies like this, are a joke anymore.

- Jack Black was orignially supposed to be the lead in this movie. Probably would of been a better choice.

- Based on a 2005 book called, The Yes Man. Written by Danny Wallace. (Wallace had a cameo in the movie)

- Carrey mastered basic Korean for a few scenes in the movie.

The Day Mitch Was Sitting Still At a Terrible Movie

I'm a person who tends to enjoy Sci-Fi, "end of the world" type of movies but this latest chapter to that genre is terrible in all aspects and brings out the rare feeling after leaving a movie theater that you want your money back.

The Day The Earth Stood Still is a re-make of the 1951 film with the same title. In 1951, it was based around nuclear warfare, this 2008 edition is based around humans who are destroying the planet earth. The aliens are so pissed that a planet which isn't their own is getting destroyed that they feel the urge to obliterate the thing.

Keanu Reeves plays Klaatu an annoying alien who changes his opinion on what he should do about the planet earth over and over. Then there's Jennifer Connelly who according to Adam Sandler is half jewish too and he'd like to put some more in her! (Chanukkah Song Part III reference if your wondering.) She's a some biologist at Princeton who out of nowhere gets thrown into this Federal investigation about a asteriod hitting the planet earth. After she basically gets kidnapped by the authorities she leaves behind her step-son, Jacob who is played by Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith. (Just for the record, never let Jaden follow in daddy's footsteps. Kid has no acting abilities and is annoying.) Well anyways, the movie leads to Connelly and a bunch of other scientists watching the supposed asteroid hit Central Park in New York, and come to find out its some shiny globe looking thing with a alien, coming out.

That alien is Klaatu (Reeves), he gets taken in by the U.S. troops that are there and gets taken in for questioning as to what he is doing here on Earth. From what I gathered he didn't really know either.

The movie the rest of the way out was filled with stupid orders from Kathy Bates who was playing the U.S. Secretary of Defense. Apparently she was in charge while the President and V.P. were in some bunker. Her demands were ridiculous to say the least. Then Jacob (Smith) kept dis-obeying his step-mom over and over which got annoying. And through all of that Connelly and Reeves are just driving around to figure out how to stop this plague that is going to end mankind as we know it.

It was terrible. Don't waste your time, on this poor excuse for a movie. Welcome to the Meet Dave club, Eath Sitting Still. You are the 2nd 1-star review on this site. Congrats! Your good for something.

Four Christmases Review

REVIEW

Vince Vaughn has fallen off the comedic map since his peak in Wedding Crashers back in 2005. He had a underrated performance in Vince Vaughn's Wild Wild West Comedy Tour but other than that nothing much to get excited about. Four Christmases looked like a promising fun loving Christmas movie, but it had many flaws.

Prior to seeing the movie I had heard that Vaughn and co-star Resse Witherspoon had been fighting with one another on set and had not been getting along with one another. It even got to the point that Witherspoon refused a sex-scene on camera with the 38 year-old Vaughn. So, I figured going into this movie the chemistry between these two would be awkward to say the least and it didn't disappoint. Witherspoon has been a major disappointment as an actress in my eyes since her performance in Legally Blonde. On screen in all of her roles lately she seems awkward as mentioned, and acts like she is bored with her roles and doesn't bring much life to them.

Vince Vaughn as usual was hillarious. The guy has a knack for his fast-speaking tangents and can go on for hours. His kisses on male foreheads are always classic and he is really the lone bright spot in this sorry film. Well maybe Jon Voight as well, who plays as Kate's (Witherspoon) father.

Well the story is based around Kate and Brad (Vaughn) who are in a serious relationship; live together, both successful with great careers, and they don't deal with their families. Brad and Kate are also not married and don't plan on getting married feeling its not necessary and they also don't plan on having any children. They just wanna live their lives and basically do what they want, which includes vacationing to foreign islands during Christmas, avoiding their families.

Brad and Kate each have a set of divorced parents, and when the couple find out their flights to Fiji are being canceled due to fog in the San Francisco area they are forced to see their four parents, because each one of them saw Brad and Kate on TV.

The first stop of four, was to Brad's fathers home where it was pretty much red-neck central, with Brads bothers being UFC-type fathers who bully Brad around all the time. It was chaotic and boring to say the least. Vince Vaughn's buddy, Jon Favreau was one of the brothers and his role has been raved about reviewers but I found it to be boring and stupid. Not funny at all.

After the stop with rednecks, it was off to see Kate's moms house played by Mary Steenburgen who was in Step Brothers this past summer. Kate's family kept clamoring the Brad whole time because it was the first time they ever saw him and they kept bringing up Kate's embarassing past, about being overweight. Steenburgen's role was odd as she couldn't complete a full sentence without pausing for at least a minute it seemed like, and she was in love with one of the ugliest dudes I've ever seen on film. He was some creepy god-worshipping yelling type preachers.

Then it was Brad's Mom, who was apparently dating Brad's best friend in College now, so it made things awkward for Brad to see his mom like that.

Then Kate's dad who was played by Jon Voight. He was the only normal parent in the bunch as he was very mild mannered; but it was still odd. Voight's character had invited his ex wife (Steenburgen) along with her crazy preacher boyfriend for Christmas dinner. Do people actually do that?

Through all of this family mess, Brad and Kate find out things about one another that put their relationship to the test and see if they feel like they need to more with their relationship, than what they are currently doing. It's not entertaining and has very little laughs other than the stuff Vaughn says. I would suggest waiting till next 2009 Holiday season to see this on DVD. Your not missing anything this year. If you want to see a good Vince Vaughn christmas movie, go see Fred Claus.

Is it bad for me as a guy to say I kind of enjoyed Twilight?

REVIEW

For the record, I had never read a single word in one of the Twilight books written by BYU alum Stephenie Meyer. I just saw this movie on a whim and to see what all the hype was about. I also became more interested when I saw the lead actor, Pattinson admitted on Jay Leno that he isn't into bathing himself, and if he wasn't a actor he would be a homeless dude. How cool is that? After that, I thought I must see this! Here's the clip from the Leno.

The movie itself was nothing special but strangely I enjoyed it. Kristen Stewart's character, Isabella a.k.a. Bella was frustrating to watch because she seemed as boring as a rock but for some odd reason it still worked. Stewart for what it's worth is damn hot, I might take up some work as a Vampire to get a go with that.

Bella moves from Phoenix to leave with her Dad who she hasn't been with in years. She moves to this po-dunk town in Washington, called Forks. Bella meets Edward for the first time in her Biology class as she is assigned to sit next to him. Edward acts odd around her and doesn't say a word. Bella is confused as to what his deal is and is determined the next day to ask him what's his problem. Edward doesn't show up for days, mainly due to the weather. Whenever its good weather of course vampires are gonna show.

Its a rainy day up in Forks, and Edward is back. He tries to initiate conversation with Bella trying to act like nothing happened with Bella on the first day they met. Bella asks him what his deal is but he keeps avoiding the issue but not giving her straight answers, such as asking her what she thinks of the weather. Bella gets frustrated and goes outside for lunch next to her beaten up truck given to her by her Dad. It was fixed up by her friend James. While she is listening to her iPod, a van loses control of the steering wheel and seems destined to hit Bella but out of nowhere Edward stops the fan with just his hand and then flees the scene. Bella has no idea how that happened and definitely wanted answers.

After seeing Edward a few more times, Bella notices some strange traits in him and comes to the conclusion he's a vampire. Edward doesn't seem upset that Bella knows he's a vampire, he just states that she is like his own personal heroine, lol. I erupted in laughter when he said that. I think the 12 year-old girls who had seen the film about seven times when I said that got pissed.

Bella and Edward start to fall in love and Edward swears basically his undying allegiance to never hurt Bella and to protect her always. That promise gets put to the test when some other vampire named James finds out Bella is human. James has a ravenous addiction to eating human flesh that he felt like it was his duty to eat the hell out of Bella. So there you go.

USELESS FACTS

- That Jasper dude in the film has some hillarious facial expressions.

- My sister and mom fall into the category of morbidly obsessed women when it comes to this series.

- The second installment, New Moon will not have the same director, Catherine Hardwicke. LINK

- Twilight has grossed $139 Million as of today in the Box Office.

2008 Fall Movies Wrap-Up

The Holiday season is in full gear now that Thanksgiving is over, so it's time to review the films I saw during the Fall Movie season.

#1 Zack and Miri Make a Porno (10/10 Stars) (Review)

The raunchy Kevin Smith comedy about two best friends who are completely broke and resort to making porn to get out of their bad financial situation is filled with great laughs and is the best film I saw this Fall. The title can be misleading though, the film is sincere and has a nice love story to go along with it that for some reason people forget about. Craig Robinson compliments Rogen and Banks exceptionally well as he steals almost every scene he is in.

#2 Role Models (9) (Review)

A comedy that flew under the radar till its release has been one of the better surprise films of 2008. Paul Rudd is outstanding and Bobbe J Thompson's foul-mouthed behavior as 12 year-old Ronnie is priceless. Fun movie from start to finish.

#3 Sex Drive (9) (Review)

The script seemed better suited for the late 90s but all in all still extremely funny. Michael Cera's buddy Clark Duke was the star of the film with his sex-driven remarks and Seth Green was great as well. Makes guys realize that losing your virginity isn't the only thing needed to be happy in life.

#4 The Express (9) (Review)

The forgotten story of Syracuse RB Ernie Davis was brought back to life in another one of these emotional football stories. A must-see for any fan of College Football, but still a good film for a casual movie person. Davis followed in the gigantic footsteps of Jim Brown who played for the Cleveland Browns. Davis filled those shoes nicely by being the first African-American to win the Heisman and paving the way for African-American players at not only Syracuse but all of College Football.

#5 Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist (8) (Review)

A hip movie showcasing the Indie, Emo scene around New York City. Michael Cera as Nick is your typical Cera role. Awkward, passionate, emotional, and very kind. Kat Dennings as Norah is this hip chick who keeps to herself and knows music inside and out and the two find out over the long New York City night in pursuit of finding their favorite band, "Where's Fluffy" that they start getting strong feelings for one another.

#6 Max Payne (8) (Review)

Saw Max Payne on a total whim after skipping around screenings. And to my surprise as someone who never played the video game, I was really entertained by the whole movie. Mark Wahlberg is a great actor, and have always enjoyed his work. He seemed like a solid choice for Payne and the movie was filmed in a very cool style and showed some great city shots. I will be seeing this again on DVD.

#7 Quarantine (8) (Review)

Along the lines of Cloverfield, with its shaky behind the handheld camera look. Quarantine is a creepy thriller movie that has you wondering what's happening next with the downright creepy shit that is going on in the Quarantined home.

#8 Saw V (7) (Review)

The fifth installment of the Saw franchise was definitely for the "Fanboys" of the series. You have to be in touch with what is going in the series of movies or you have literally no idea what is going on in this fifth film. If you like the first four your bound to enjoy number five, but its definitely evident the series is dragging to time to wrap-up Jigsaw's antics.

#9 W. (7) (Review)

Josh Broslin did an outstanding job as George W. Bush, in this film showcasing the life of the younger Bush President. It was interesting to see how George W., was really a failure and pretty much a low-life typical 20 or 30 somethin year old dude that got drunk off his ass all the time had it not been for the money in his family. Good movie overall and showed how Dick Chaney was a total dumbass when it came to Iraq.

#10 Soul Men (6) (No Review)

Never did a feature review on Soul Men after I saw it in theaters and that's my fault. But as you probably knew, this was the late Bernie Mac's final feature role in a movie along with the late singer Isaac Hayes. Now when I saw this trailer in theaters over and over I thought for sure this was going to be a PG-13 movie. It just had this PG-13 vibe to it, two guys who used to be singers together meeting up again for a reunion show and travelling across country to do it just had the PG-13 vibe. I get in the theater in the first 5 minutes Bernie Mac is banging the hell out of some neighbor with massive jugs, and there was at least 20 F-bombs in the first 15 minutes of the film. It was nuts but I was laughing in parts. Bernie Mac's facial expressions were priceless throughout the movie, made me remember his days on The Bernie Mac Show and why I always enjoyed that movie. But Soul Men as a whole was a poor story and predictable, the swearing got old though after awhile with Mac and Samuel L., which is why the movie only got a 6.

#11 Lakeview Terrace (6) (Review)

Samuel L. Jackson is one racist son of a bitch. Jackson annoys the hell out of the Mattson family who just barely moves into the neighborhood and happens to be an interracial couple. From start to finish Jackson's character as Abel Turner is a total ass from insulting Kobe Bryant and showing support for Shaq to bitch-slapping his own daughter. Jackson is a total a-hole in this movie, but its still a decent movie throughout and Patrick Wilson is always good.

#12 Body Of Lies (6) (Review)

Leanardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe star in this movie about......well...I can't honestly say I remember. It was that forgettable. But I did like some of the action in the movie, and some of the scenes were pretty cool, and I liked the whole terrorist set up which is why it got a decent rating. Crowe and DiCaprio are never in scenes together which I found to be odd.

#13 My Best Friend's Girl (5) (Review)

Dane Cook's latest lead role in a Comedy was definitely his worst. Cook, Kate Hudson and Jason Biggs three well known stars star in this movie that goes literally nowhere and is mistitled to say the least. Going in your thinking Jason Biggs is with Kate Hudson and he was never with her. They were just best friends and Cook trying to be the total ass he always is to chicks tries to help his buddy by making Kate Hudson's character realize how good of a guy Biggs was. Its a lame effort. Good for a few laughs but nothing special. Stick to Dane Cook's stand-up gigs.

#14 How To Lose Friends & Alienate People (5) (Review)

For some reason I was really excited about this movie. It was probably the fact that Megan Fox was in it, but this movie was the first Pegg flop I have seen. The movie dragged as Pegg a UK member of the Paparazzi comes to New York City to work for one of the biggest magazines in the country and try to make his mark on society. Its lame and not funny with the exception of a few things Pegg says. If your expecting Hot Fuzz and Shawn of the Dead quality, forget about it!

#15 Eagle Eye (4) (Review)

Rounding out the Fall Movies I saw is Eagle Eye, starring Shia LaBeour and Michelle Monaghan. EE, is a movie about two individuals who get thrown together because of some voice telling them to do so through their cell phones and other forms of technology. Its a terrible movie, and a bad follow-up script for LaBeouf who had great success with Transformers, but he proves he can act. Monaghan is hot which boosted the rating as well. :-)

Well that was the Fall movies, I have seen 34 movies in theaters since starting this blog back in June. Wow I just realized its almost been six months since I started this site. Crazy. Tell me what you think of my rankings in the comments. I would love to hear.

The 300 Movies You Must See Before You Die!

Yesterday, I was doing some cleaning around the house and I came acrossed some old magazines I have, one of which was a Maxim from May of this year with a headline, "The 300 Movies To See Before You Die." I didn't recall seeing that article back when I received the issue in the mail so I decided to sit down and take a gander at it. For the record Elisha Cuthbert was on the cover (pictured).

The list was pretty good with a mixture of movies I had already seen and films that I probably otherwise would have never seen had it not been for this list. I figure this would be a good way to broaden my horizons with my selections, and see some of the "Classics" from each genre. Also, I respect Maxim, they have offered up lists for everything over the years and they always good looking women on their covers so why not use their list as the bible for movies to see? : )

So what I plan to do is write a review for all 300 movies when I see it. It will take time and I can't guarantee how many movies I can see a week, but I should be able to watch some every now and then. I just figure it will be a fun thing to do, and the reviews will be different than the ones I do with new releases. All of the info and reviews will be kept on the left-side column.

Role Models Review: Paul Rudd shows he can be a lead man.

REVIEW

The Paul Rudd bandwagon has been occupied by yours truly since Rudd's two years on the sitcom, Friends as Mike Hannigan the eventual husband to Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) he was great on the show. Then when Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy came out in 2004 I was a big fan of his from then on.

Rudd has been a main-stay on the Apatow projects in supporting roles, Anchorman as mentioned, The 40 Year-Old Virgini, Knocked Up and played the hillarious role of Chuck a.k.a. "Kunu" in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Being around those great comedic minds over the years in the Apatow click, have expanded Rudd's comedy knowledge and he has branched out to screenplay writing, and his first screenplay is Role Models.

Role Models is a story about two men who are energy drink salesman and good friends. Rudd plays Danny a guy who isn't happy with how his life is going. Hates his job, gets irritated with everyone and with his negative attitude he is losing his love interest of seven years in Beth played by Elizabeth Banks.

For the record, is it just me or is Elizabeth Banks in everything these days? Don't get me wrong she's great on screen and is quite funny but everything I see lately seems to have Banks somewhere in it. Just a thought.

Danny's friend on the other hand, Wheeler is played by Scott and he is a eternal optimist. Always tries to find the best in the worst of situations including the possibility of the two men facing 30 days of jail time due to destruction of school property. Danny and Wheeler's attorney is Beth (Danny's love interest) and she pulls some strings with the judge to get them 150 hours of community service at Sturdy Wings.

Wheeler is happy, Danny on the other hand would rather spend jail time when he finds out that he has to spend 150 hours with one of the kids at Sturdy Wings. Augie Farks (Mitz-Plasse) is Danny's "small" as they call it in the film. Augie is into a form of medieval fighting with other people in the area, the fighting realm even has a king they worship which is played by Ken Jeong another fixture on movies from Apatow. Danny won't bow to the king ever and that sets off King Argotron the wrong way, whos castle resides at a local fast food burger joint.

Ronnie (Thompson) is Wheeler's "small" and brace yourself for the language you will hear from a 12 year-old. Its a bit shocking at first the type of language he is using to the adults. But the character isn't just foul mouthed the whole time. As you watch the film, you will see how lonely he gets without adults in his life on a consistent basis. Ronnie had 12 "Bigs" the past few weeks and none lasted more than a day. Wheeler braces himself because again he doesn't want to go to jail.

The woman overseeing the men getting their 150 hours in with their "smalls" is Jane Lynch who is this ex-druggie, ex-convict who as she liked to put it had tons of sick thoughts, is the founder of Sturdy Wings and will not put up with any B.S. She is hillarious in every scene she is in.

The movie is hillarious, I didn't really think the love deal between Rudd and Banks was necessary I found it to be boring and not belivable at times but all in all this is a great movie. Just know though, like Zack and Miri Make A Porno this isn't a Judd Apatow movie. I say that because some of the reviews I have read today have indicated it was. This isn't, and it has a different type of humor. Its really fun and sweet if it wasn't for the vulgar swearing its probably a good family film but I won't lie the swearing made this movie over the top. Director David Wain always puts out funny stuff and this is no different. I look forward to seeing what Rudd does in the future with his new found success in screenplay writing.

Living in Utah, I did in fact see Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Shocking right? Considering a chain of theaters here in Utah called "Megaplex" opted to ban the film from showing due to the sexual content. Whatever. But yes I did see it, and it was another Kevin Smith classic.

Unlike the title suggests, this movie is very tame and sweet compared to other Kevin Smith projects, sex with a donkey in Clerks II? I rest my case.

Rogen stars as Zack a nice guy who has never really amounted to anything in life, is a employee at a coffee shop and has a dear friend, Miri (Banks) who he has lived with for 10 years and is very close to. But the two are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and are short on cash so they opt for a solution to make a quick buck, porn.

This is a great movie from start to finish. I loved watching the relationship between Rogen and Banks on camera. Critics have bashed it saying a guy like Rogen would never get with Banks, but come on most guys are ugly as hell so attractive women once in awhile settle for an ugly guy or two. It happens. Rogen's role as Zack is very belivable and you could see him being in this predictiment than coming up with the idea to make Porn as the bailout. Hell I think every guy on the planet at some point in his life has wondered what it would be like to be in a porno.

Watching the characters of Zack and Miri find the cast and set to make the porn film, "Star Whores" is hillarious, and when they start filming your about to choke on your popcorn of laughter. In the background is a great song by MC Chris title "Fett's Vett". Its wonderful.

There are some scenes that might make you feel awkward in the theater, especially when Jason Mewes and Katie Morgan are acting like they are having sex, you might get squirmish but its funny to watch and the movie gets back on track quickly to being a sweet film about two people who are in love with each other.

This is a wonderful movie and the best comedy I have seen since Step Brothers back in July. But one thing I would say about going to see this movie, be careful who you see this with. I wouldn't suggest this film for a first date, or someone who is easily offend by sexual humor. Know your friends, spouses, or other compadres when going to see this film. I noticed a few couples walking out on the film when I saw it. Which is a shame they missed a great movie and have low self-esteem about themselves. But all in all it's a great comedy and another classic with Seth Rogen. It might not reflect that in the Box Office with only $10 million in the opening weekend but for those who have seen it, they have seemed to be impressed and enjoyed it.

One more thing, along with Banks and Rogen doing great on screen. This movie wouldn't be what it is without Craig Robinson (Pineapple Express, The Office) practically every line he delivers in this movie is a riot. Justin Long is terrific as well playing as a gay porn star. I just have high remarks for this film all around. Go see it!

- This movie was filmed in Monroeville, PA. The 1979 horror film Dawn of the Dead was filmed there as well.

- Kevin Smith discovered Seth Rogen after seeing him on The 40 Year-Old Virgin on DVD, and knew instantly he would be the man to play Zack.

- Smith has had the idea for Zack and Miri since '97, but it was more about the whole porn scene. Saw V Review: The Saw series keeps cranking out good movies

First off, if you haven't seen any of the first four Saw movies don't even bother seeing this movie. You will have literally no idea what is going on and that is the honest truth. I have enjoyed the Saw movies for the past 3 years. I did a crash course refresher the week leading up to V so I could get my mind right with all the twists and turns that go on in the series. But again, see the first four before even seeing the fifth one. The fifth in this series is the best in the series at closing the gap with the backstories and how everything has happened in the series to this point.

With that said, here's the review.

Jigsaw (Bell) is long gone after dying in the third one, but his traps and tricks are still strong and well. After Saw IV Detective Hoffman (Mandylor) has become the heir to the Jigsaw legacy and in this installment it shows when Detective Hoffman starts getting involved with Jigsaw; all in thanks to the work of FBI Agent Strahm (Patterson) who is on medical leave for work but is still hot on the Jigsaw case and is determined to figure out who the heir actually is.

This installment of the Saw series is defintely for the fanboys of the series. I'm one of them, I enjoyed this one but I'm disappointed in a sense that it was just a set up for Saw VI in 2009. This franchise needs to die after next year or else it's going to get very dull and uninteresting. It's amazing what the makers of this film have done with it since the original Saw back in 2004. It's a good movie, has some holes in it that leave you hanging and the tagline on the official posters is a bit misleading if you ask me, "You won't believe how it ends." The ending isn't really shocking as you watch the movie continue, but that's just my opinion.

Personally, I respect the man for opting to not show it. That's his decision but to show Saw movies, are kind of hypocritical, is he that frightened of sex?

- Saw V grossed $30.1 Million it's opening weekend in the Box Office which is down from the $31.7 Million opening Saw IV had the weekend before Halloween '07. Each year the Saw movies have been decreasing in box offices numbers on the opening weekend.

Sex Drive is pretty much what the title says, a 18 year-old kid who is still a virgin and is looking to get laid. He's a dumb issue but the writers and the actors of this movie made it really funny, and it's one of the more underrated comedies this year. Most critics are giving this movie two thumbs down but I came away very entertained and thought it was great.

Zuckerman plays the lead role as Ian, a lovable loser who is a really nice guy but doesn't know how in the world to talk to women. You feel for the kid you really do, and matters don't get any better when he has a older brother calling him a homo all the time and a younger 14 year-old brother who is dating the girl he likes at his work, the Senor Donut shop.

Ian starts chatting with this girl online named "Ms_Tasty" she is a very good looking woman and to impress her he acts like he is on a football team and bench pressing 300 lbs. She is apparently taking the bait and wants Ian to drive from Chicago to see her in Knoxville, Tennessee. Ian talks it over with his best friend, Lance (Clark Duke) and Lance being the playboy that he is is totally down with it and is ready to go.

The crew decides to go but they have one more addition, Felicia (Amanda Crew) joins in who is Ian's friend and secret crush but knows they will never get together so they stay friends. She joins them, Lance is pissed because now he knows his buddy Ian will get cock-blocked by Felicia as he puts it.

From there their journey from Chicago to Knoxville is filled with rednecks, '69 GTO breaking down and being fixed by Seth Green and his Amish buddies and Fall Out Boy performing.

It's a funny teen movie, one of the better ones in the genre. Not better than Superbad but is a good one after following that very good film.

Clark Duke (pictured) stole the show though for me. He was first known in his internet based sitcom with Michael Cera called, "Clark and Michael." Duke was also in Superbad where he said, "Fogell's a badass!" Other than that this is his first major role in a motion-picture and he does a great job. Everything he said was pretty much funny. He's an up-and-coming comedy star who I would like to see in more movies.

Go see this movie while you still can in theaters.

Getting up to Speed

Along with seeing many DVDs, I have seen even more movies in theaters, and the total cost? Around $10. Yeah I was spending entire days at the local cinema. It was a good time.

I decided instead of breaking down each one, I will just give some quick recaps so I'm up to speed with all the films I have seen thus far. Here we go!

Body of Lies

Not a very big fan of Russell Crowe or Leonardo DiCaprio but I was interested from the whole Terrorist angle over in the Middle East. Although, this movie had the potential to be very good, it's a flop compared to what it should be. The movie jumps around a lot, and can be tough to follow at times, and Crowe and DiCaprio are rarely in the same scenes together. I was also bothered by the whole love story. Why would DiCaprio fall in love with a nurse in the middle east who is treating him for rabies? I felt that was just thrown beacuse it's DiCaprio, and women want to see love with that guy. The action is okay in the film but it's nothing to get excited about. Check it out on DVD.

The Express

This movie is about Syracuse Running Back Ernie Davis who became the first African American to win the Heisman Trophy, the most prestigous award in all of College Football. As a College Football fan, I loved this movie but College Football fans won't be the only ones to enjoy this movie, it's for anyone regardless of your interest in sports.

Ernie Davis (Rob Brown, Finding Forrester) was a big-time recruit out of Elmira, N.Y., who signed with Syracuse to be the man to replace the great Jim Brown who went on to play with the Cleveland Browns, but never won the Heisman at Syracuse. Davis when he went to the 'Cuse had plans to finish what Jim Brown started. There were a lot of struggles for Ernie to succeed with all the racism that him and his team faced (two other AA athletes) due to the color of their skin. It's a great movie and is another one of those sports movies that is a wonderful feel-good story.

Max Payne

Based on the popular video game, Max Payne is a very cool mystery film starring Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne. Payne is a detective for the NYPD Cold Case department who has struggled to focus on his job after the mysterious murder of his wife, Michelle Payne. That has been his mission is to find the man who killed her. While trying to figure out the murder of his wife, there are other suspicious murders that are taking place around the city that people in the force feel Payne committed including one on a woman named Natasha (Olga Kurlenkyo, Hitman), Natasha's sister Mona Sax (Mila Kunis) wants to keel Payne after she hears that it was possibly him. She she's him to face-to-face and he tells her he didn't do it and explains what he is trying to do and next thing you know he has a running mate to figure out the murder of his wife along with all the strange deaths that are taking place in the city.

This is a very cool movie, and I'm someone who never played the game. It's very intense and the style in which the movie was filmed is very cool to see as well.
RATING: 8/10

This was a good story on the life of President, George W. Bush. Bush was played by Josh Broslin who did a great job playing as the President. The film showed how Bush's life was filled of disappointment and living through his dad's success. It was interesting even though you pretty much knew how it would end, it was cool to see his life when he was younger because he was no different than any other joe-schmoe. He was just lucky to be in a situation where he had his dad who was very rich and big in society to help him. But he did strive to do things on his own as he did, graduating from Harvard Business school, becoming Governor of Texas, owner of the Texas Rangers and eventually the President of the U.S. It's a good movie, but maybe wait for it on DVD.

Getting Up To Speed: DVD's

Seen and purchased some DVDs recently, so here are my quick thoughts.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This is one of the best Comedies of 2008, and where does it come from? Of course the Apatow gang. The film stars Jason Segel and Kirsten Bell both of whom have been seeing each other for five years until Sarah (Bell) tells Peter (Segel) that she wants to move on and break up with him. Peter wants to get away and get his mind off of things, so he decides to go to Hawai'i, but when he gets there he quickly finds out Sarah is there with her new boyfriend, Aldous Snow (Russell Brand). It's a great movie and one that everyone should see.

RATING: 9/10

Iron Man

For some reason I had no interest to see this movie in theaters. I had really been down on the whole comic book character movies, but this one possibly revived my interest. Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect fit to play Tony Stark. Unlike other Marvel comics movies, this one is exciting from the start to finish. Which was one of the reasons why it was so good. The cast is great with Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges. This is the only comic-book story that can even rival up against the new Batman series. A must-buy.

Shutter

Me and my girlfriend were looking for a movie at RedBox and she wanted something scary. We were looking through the options and Shutter came up. She wanted that one. I knew instantly this would be a stinker if it was PG-13. Sorry, but Horrors are not good when they are PG-13, but I was willing to give it a go.

It lived up to my low expectations, with it being awful. Nothing was scary in this film based in Japan where newly married couple, Ben and Jen Shaw are getting accustomed to their new home. Ben is a photographer and he starts seeing a spirit in his photographs. Come to find out it's Ben's ex-girlfriend who starts haunting the couple and Ben's friends. It's a stinker. Don't waste your time.

Eagle Eye will make you never want to use your phone again

REVIEW

What a waste of time. Really this movie simply drew me in because:

1) It was Free.

2) I think Michelle Monaghan is hot.

Other than that I was not interested in seeing this film, especially after fellow Movie Blogger, Farzan rated it so low. The low expectations let me enjoy this film a little bit more than I usually would, but it still was terrible.

The whole film is based around Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) who are thrown together by phone calls from the same woman. Shortly after their calls they realize they are accused of being terrorists; and the FBI is trying to follow them, while the two continue to follow the directions fromt his mysterious woman, who is using the technology we use in everyday life against everyone in their path.

The movie starts out strong and your excited to see where the film goes after a terrorist attack and the massive amounts of weapons at Jerry's apartment. Then to me the film just gets plain sloppy and I couldn't wait to see it get over. I kept wondering when this thing would get over. But it would just keep going with a call from the mysterious woman saying something along the lines of this,

"Jerry you did not obey! Go to the Donut shop and punch out three cops. You will be safe if you obey! Take the female with you!"

Yeah. What the hell was that right? That's Eagle Eye for ya.

Some positives though are Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan, they are great on screen and are very belivable in their roles. LaBeouf is very talented and will keep getting big-time box office roles but this one was a stinker.

One other thing I took away from this movie is that technology is something we just expect to have and rely on in our everyday lives, but what if we didn't have it? Or if it wasn't working the way we needed it to work? It's a scary thought, because as a society we are so dependent on it. Hopefully it never goes astray on us.

This movie is soon to be exiting the main theaters and will be hitting $1 theaters shortly I would assume. I would wait for that or just wait for the RedBox rental. Definitely not worth a full-price purchase.

Quarantine is a edgy thriller which is sure to surprise

Going into Quarantine I had no expectations of this film, I was just intrigued by the scary trailer and the lead woman (Carpenter) because she was in White Chicks. Which I would say is one of the most underrated films around. The Wayans brothers as white women is pretty damn funny, but let's get back to the film that I had no idea what I was getting into.

I will be honest I didn't even know what the word, quarantine meant. So I researched it before I went to watch and here's the definition:

A period of time during which a vehicle, person, or material suspected of carrying a contagious disease is detained at a port of entry under enforced isolation to prevent disease from entering a country.

This movie fits in the category with The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield as one of those films that is filmed through a handheld camera and you feel as though you are the person behind the lense. Personally, I'm a fan of these so I saw this in the opening I was more excited.

The movie is based on Angela Vidal (Carpenter) a night-beat reporter who is doing a segment all night on life at a Fire Department House. She is getting to know the firemen and get a feel for what they do while the general public is sleeping.

Angela and her camerman, Scott (Steve Harris) are paired to follow around two firemen, Jake (Jay Hernandez, Friday Night Lights) and Bernard (Bernard White). Angela gets a first-hand look at the over-night life of the firemen from these two gentleman. It's evident that the men find her attractive and are making bets when she isn't looking that they will be sleeping with her. That all ends when Angela gets drift of what they are saying.

The firemen get a call about a woman trapped in her house and the two guys that Angela is following take it and she and her cameraman are allowed to follow.

Everyone gets to the house including Angela and they have the camera rolling the whole time. What they see is old woman who is dead silent and has blood running down her mouth. They are confused as to what they should do with this woman because she isn't reacting to anything. The cameraman turns a light on, on his camera and that sets off the woman into an attacking spree where she bites Bernard, and from that point on chaos ensues.

Angela, Jake, the cop and the cameraman head downstairs looking to head outside but they quickly find out the house is being blocked off by police and other unknown people. All the people in this apartment complex start to get worried and are instantly panicing.

The film continues with this mysterious disease plaguing the rest of the complex and people continue to panic. Angela, Jake and the cameraman are the characters in focus for the majority of the film and it's interesting to watch how what can happen to people who are blocked from all sources of communication, food, etc. and the drastic measures people will take to get ahead and keep themselves alive.

This is a really interesting movie that I enjoyed. It's a thriller movie in every sense of the word, and you will be anxious to see what happens next as the film continues. It's a very well done movie. I'd recommend seeing it.

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist Review

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist is quite the film. From start to finish it's a really fun, exciting ride to watch Nick (Michael Cera) and Norah (Kat Dennings) as they evolve from a kiss in a club to make another girl jealous to becoming two teenagers who instantly start falling in love with another.

The setting of the film is great with it being in New York City. Nick is a punk, emo kid in a band called, "The Jerk-Offs." The name stems from the other three band members being gay while Nick on the other hand is a straight kid struggling to get over Tris (Alexis Dziena, Strangers With Candy) the girl who just dumped him on his birthday. Who he can't stop thinking about and has essentially dedicated all of his time and efforts to this girl while she could really care less. Nick's gay buddies try to cheer up Nick by motivating him to come play the gig at a local club they are scheduled to perform at. Nick comes reluctantly, but the kicker was to find the secret concert of his favorite band, "Where's Fluffy" which is to be played somewhere around the city that night.

Nick plays the bass in his band and his performance is mediocre at best. He gets even worse when he notices the girl he loves with another guy at the show and she acts as though she could care less. Nick is just ready to go home at this point, when all of a sudden Norah comes to Nick asking him to be her boyfriend for five minutes. He is dumbfounded and doesn't know what to say and Norah kisses him. Norah did it because Trish was teasing her saying she didn't have a boyfriend and she was a loner. Norah didn't know Nick was Trish's ex-boyfriend. So all this fallout ensues afterwards, where Trish sees this and starts to get jealous and Nick is still confused as all hell.

From there, the film has twists and turns where Nick, Norah and Nick's bandmates try to find Norah's intoxicated friend who ran away because she thought she was being kidnapped by Nick's friends. Then Nick & Norah have a few fallouts but keep coming back to one another. It's a fun film and showcases the lifestyle of NYC at night and their music scene. Really cool to see.

I'm surprised to see this film is rated so low amongst movie-goers while the critics are giving it high praise. I thought it was really good. It had it's awkward moments but that's teenage life, filled with awkwardness and events that make absolutely no sense but it's memorable and it's that type of stuff that makes you remember those special nights. That's Nick & Norah. And during the whole film, there is some good indie music throughout. I would highly suggest the Soundtrack. I've been listening to it today and it's really great. "Ottoman" by Vampire Weekend is my favorite thus far.

USELESS FACTS

- This is the third movie in the calendar year that I have seen Kat Dennings in. Charlie Bartlett, House Bunny and this one.

- Nick drops the F-Bomb at the beginning of the film.

- Apatow regular, Jay Baruchel is in the movie and is a Jewish rocker. If your a expecting a funny role from him, it's really not. He's actually a real doucher in the film.

- SNL's Seth Meyers makes a cameo in the film. He think's Nick's Yugo (which by the way is bona-fide badass!) is a taxi. Gets in starts making love with his girlfriend and says arguably the best line in the film, "I love you so much, it's retarded!" Haha great line, and very funny scene.

How to Lose Friends & Alienate People is not another UK Comedy Hit

REVIEW

Simon Pegg has become a household name here in America with movies like Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and Run, Fatboy Run. With those movies having cult followings it seemed that a R-rated comedy with him as the lead alongside the sexy Megan Fox this film with a freakishly long title would destined to be good. In the UK? It's a smash-hit. But here in America, this is going to tank and the box office numbers are showing that.

Pegg is a bright spot in this film. He carries the film. He has solidified his status as a lead-man in Hollywood that's for sure. But this movie was just not funny and it was labeled as a Comedy. Pegg plays as Sidney Young a hip, edgy British tabloids writer that makes his own magazine. He is a knowledgeable man in the entertainment business but struggles to succeed by being outlandish and not giving into what society thinks is acceptable. Clayton Harding played by Jeff Bridges reads Sidney's tabloid magazine from his office in New York City. Harding runs "Sharp Magazine" the top entertainment magazine in the country, and feels Sidney could help out. Sidney is thrilled and thinks he has hit the big-time when little does he realize he is very from hitting the big-time.

Sidney comes with a bold attitude looking to make drastic changes to the magazine and entertainment but it doesn't take him long to realize his antics are not getting him anywhere. His actions do lead him to fellow co-worker Alison Olsen (Kirsten Dunst) who he thinks is up-tight and lacks any personality at first but over time becomes close friends with her and even starts to have intimate feelings for her. Those feelings get tested though for his lust for Sophie Maes (Megan Fox) the hot, young, sexy "IT" girl in Hollywood that Sharp Magazine has been covering. Sidney meets Maes and she is turned off by his weird British accent. So that makes Sidney driven to prove Journalists can in fact land a hot, sexy entertainer that isn't a transvestite; like he hooked up with earlier in the film.

This whole film is sort of bunched up with different personalities that make the characters realize what they want in life; and the lengths they will go to reach what they want, even if involves ideas or characteristics they don't necessarily agree with. And amidst all that there is a love story. It's cheesy and I was bored about half-way through when Pegg's character was starting to tone down his bold personality. It's a huge downgrade compared to Shaun, Fuzz and Fat boy. But in no way does it take away the talents of Pegg who is here to stay. This film could of maybe used his sidekick Nick Frost, but I don't even think he could of saved this boring story from being anymore exciting.

One more thing I came away thinking about after seeing this was that Megan Fox is really annoying. I can understand her character is playing the spoiled, sex pot Hollywood star who has no real talent, but her voice was just irritating and she really doesn't have much acting ability. I don't see her being on the big-screen much longer. She is sexy as hell, but that can only get you so far. As for Kirsten Dunst she didn't have that messed up grill like she did in Spider-Man 3 which was a good thing to see. Nice to see Kirsten brushing these days.

USELESS FACTS

- This film opened last Friday to a box office total of $420,000 which is an average of $234 per theater. Yikes!

- Before the film opened in America this film had a rating of 8.2 on IMDB. Now it's listed at 7.7.

- Gillian Anderson most commonly known as Dr. Scully on the X Files is Sophie Maes assistant in this film and is a real Be-otch.

- This film is based on a book written by Toby Young.

Lakeview Terrace will make you want to junk-punch Samuel L. Jackson

REVIEW

If you have been a reader of this site, you will know I have a tendency to see films that star or have actors/actresses that I have liked in other films, which will lead me to see a new release. This wasn't the case in this film. Although, I did like Patrick Wilson's performance in Hard Candy, but overall I was intrigued by the whole cop angle this film was showcasing in the trailer. Samuel L. Jackson is of course the bad-motha LAPD cop known as Abel Turner, that the new neighbors (Wilson, Washington) can't trust.

Why can't they trust a LAPD cop living next to them? Well, Abel is out to make the newly married couple's life a living hell. The reason? The Mattson's are a inter-racial couple. That's it. Abel makes their lives hell throughout the film with bright lights shining in their windows to hiring criminals that Abel has arrested before to break in to the home and destroy the Mattson house. The couple at first doesn't understand why he is acting like an ass but it didn't take long for Mr. Mattson to realize that Abel didn't want to see a white man with a black woman in his neighborhood. The Mattson's were going to stick it out and retalliate with their own ways to get under Abel's skin and find out what the cause for his hate is.

The film at times makes you wonder if this is going to go anywhere but there is some suspenseful scenes as well that make up for it. It's a unique thriller that has you wondering what is going to happen.

It's interesting to see a white male and black woman relationship on the screen. It's not very often that you see that in Hollywood, and it's sad to think that there are people who antagonize and treat a couple differently based on their skin color. You would think after all these years that things like this would move on, but the film probably shows to society that racism and prejudice behavior does in fact happen to couples who are interracial.

This is a pretty good flick. Doesn't have much replay value unless you would want to see the signs that lead up to the cause for Abel's behavior. I would suggest seeing it. It's from three very good actors.

USELESS FACTS

- The audience is introduced to Abel at his home during breakfast when his son comes down in a Kobe Bryant jersey. Abel was upset and told his son to go put a Shaq jersey on, because they don't support Kobe. Being a Lakers fan, that made me want to junk-punch Samuel L.

- This film has grossed $32.2 Million after three weeks.

- Samuel L. has a classic Samuel L. moment when he says, "I can always use a good lap dance!"

My Best Friend's Girl might spell the end for Dane Cook on the big-screen

REVIEW

Here's to the first movie review for the Fall 2008 season, let's get it rolling with a film starring Dane Cook that based on the trailer looked to have a good idea but after watching will leave you feeling the film needed a different title.

My Best Friend's Girl is supposed to be about Dane Cook's character, "Tank" helping his buddy Dustin (Jason Biggs) get his girlfriend, Alexis (Kate Hudson) back to him. Dustin wants Tank to help because, Tank is notorious for being a total jackass to dates and has a track record for making women realize the man they originally had was the best one for them. Tank admits he thrives on being a jackass and has no problem helping his friend and roommate.

Sounds like a fun movie idea, the only problem that I saw watching this movie was that Dustin was never really Alexis' girlfriend to begin with. At the beginning of the movie, Dustin is having dinner with Alexis and he wants to announce his love for her to officially and take things to the next step. Come to find out Alexis finds Dustin to be a friend type and she wants to date more people. She wants to date more people. That's when Dustin resorts to the idea of getting Tank to make her realize Dustin is the perfect man for her. Things get terrible from there, and at this point your thinking is the title actually fitting? Maybe more along the lines, "My Best Friend's Girl Who he has Never Had and Won't Stop Stalking"? That was my thought.

Tank eventually has a date with Alexis and Tank is doing what he does best and that's being a real doucher. His brilliant plan is to take Alexis to a strip club. Little does he know that Alexis is intoxicated and is trying to be more of a free spirit and be open to having sex with more men. That advice was given to her by her room mate, Ami (Lizzy Caplan, Cloverfield). She is running with that idea and the whole strip club idea that Tank feels is going to be a fiasco for her ultimately leads to lap dances and a free pass for Tank to get into Alexis' pants. After debating back-and-forth Tank went home and felt bad.

From there, Alexis emphasizes to Dustin that she is still not ready for him and little does Dustin know, Alexis is secretly hooking up with Tank for booty call sessions. Tank seems to have no problem burning his best friend whom he calls family at the beginning of the movie.

The whole film had set-ups like the one I just mentioned. Once you think something positive is happening in the film another pointless innuendo or sexual joke happens that really wasn't funny. Now I'm not one to shy away from the crude humor but this stuff seemed pointless on screen and was degrading to women. Alec Baldwin's character as Tank's dad, Professor Turner was a prime example of that. Instead of being a father to Tank and lend advice through some difficult he would just explain how he drilled his secretary last night or the times he cheated on his wife who was now deceased. Is that seriously funny? I'm in the category that would say no.

So where does Dane Cook go from here as a leading man? And Jason Biggs for that matter. These two when in feature roles seem to disappoint. I actually did like Good Luck Chuck but that was mainly for Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury). Cook is an exceptional stand-up comedy but I stil think he has a long ways to go in terms of being a lead man on the big screen. Granted he hasn't had the greatest of scripts and films to work on and he's turned them into decent movies but honestly will he ever get the chance for that leading role in a big blockbuster? Or will he continue to wallow in R-rated films that push the envelope that the only thing in life that matters is Sex? Time will tell. This outing obviously didn't help matters. When he is a in a smaller he tends to flourish, prime example would be in Waiting..., or even Dan in Real Life as Steve Carrell's brother in the film.

New Movie Review Layout for Fall Movies!

As Chazz Michael Michaels would say, "The Native Americans used hides and pelts to release the soul." Now what does that have to do with the movie review layout for this site? Nothing. Just needed to make a Blades of Glory reference for once on the site.

The reason for the change on the reviews is because I feel the previous reviews have been sloppy at times and can have went in different directions. The layout I have planned has similar features but will be a more reader-friendly format.

I'm still planning on using a rating system from 1 to 10 but now I will use a star graphic with the rating which will reflect the numbers of stars I rated for the film. Below is an example.

Hopefully this will enhance your interest in the site and enjoy the reviews more!

2008 Summer Movie Wrap-Up: The Films I Saw

I've been doing this blog for three months now and it's been really fun to do. Right when I started this is when the Summer movie season started heating up, but in the blink of the eye the time of year for blockbusters at the movie theater ended; and it was time for the Fall season.

I saw a total of 19 movies this Summer season. The second most I ever saw in a summer. Back in '04 I saw a total of 23 (5 of which were on Anchorman). I was spending my entire days at movie theaters. It was a beautiful time, no job, no responsibility and tons of R-rated films for a 16 year old kid who had never ever seen a boobie in person at the time. But I would say the '08 Summer was better. Much better. I'm more mature, better knowledge of what I'm looking for in a film and I have seen boobies in person since that summer of '04. Let's take a look at my final rankings for the Summer movies I saw in theaters.

#1 The Dark Knight (10/10) (Review)

The Dark Knight exceeded every one's hype including mine, and instantly was a masterpiece and a great way to cap off a career for an outstanding in Heath Ledger who in my opinion can never replaced when it comes to The Joker. He is the definition of that character. This is the definition of a summer movie that gets your imagination going and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Nothing but high praise for this film.

#2 Step Brothers (10) (Review)

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are one of the best duos together on the big screen. This raunchy comedy about two 40 year-old is filled with one-liners that will have you going for months with your buddies and will make you look into investing in more sweet vintage t-shirts.

#3 The Foot Fist Way (10) (Review)

I have yet to meet a person that knows what I'm talking about when I mention The Foot Fist Way. That might change with the film being on DVD now, but this comedy is the break-out performance for Danny McBride and the character of Fred Simmons who runs a Tae Kwon Do studio in North Carolina is downright hilarious. It's low-budget but that's what makes it so special and funny.

#4 Wanted (10) (Review)

This is the definition of a "Guy Flick". I'd be willing to bet many dollars that this film ends up on the Spike Channel in about 3 to 5 years and it's not because of the explosions and the action, well that's part of it but who wouldn't want to see Angelina Jolie's booty over and over again? I'm in the category that would gladly see it about 11,331,520 times.

#5 WALL·E (9.5) (Review)

I labeled WALL·E a "modern day masterpiece". Now your probably thinking, why isn't WALL·E up there with Dark Knight if it's a masterpiece? WALL·E is a masterpiece for many different reasons and was a film that I'm so happy I ended up seeing. When you watch the movie you feel so attached to WALL·E and root for him all along the way. It's a great kids film but it's also a movie that all adults will enjoy with it's messages about the environment, relationships and genuine caring for people.

I got so caught up in the WALL·E hype that it spurned me to purchase a frigging iDance WALL·E that dances to the music from my iPod. And yes I'm 20 years old.

#6 Tropic Thunder (9) (Review)

Tropic Thunder is edgy, has great action scenes and is the revival film for Ben Stiller to the ever coveted 18-35 demographic. Tropic Thunder could be a genre changer with its unique format and references to pop culture. Its one of the best if not THE best spoof film you will come across.

#7 You Don't Mess With the Zohan (8.5) (No Review)

Zohan was a movie before I saw before I started the site and I really enjoyed it. Most critics and movie-goers couldn't stand it with it's immature sexual innuendo. But I took it as Sandler in his finest. The funniest movie Sandler has made since The Wedding Singer. I think most movie-goers and comedy fans (including myself) are so into the Apatow style of humor that consists of improve and awkwardness that the Sandler and SNL style of humor is a thing of the past. Granted it is, but Sandler is still one guy who has a knack for pulling it off and being a Counter-Terrorist who does hair is a pretty funny gig.

#8 Get Smart (8.5) (No Review)

Solid Film. This was Steve Carrell's best outing since 40 Year Old Virgin. I couldn't stand Anne Hatheway but the film was a fun movie experience and Carroll flourished as Maxwell Smart. The rest of the cast was great with The Rock, David Koechner and Terry Crews. Even the Capital One guy and his Heroes buddy were funny at times.

#9 The Promotion (8) (Review)

What caught my eye to see to this "Dramedy" was of course John C. Reilly and surprisingly it was pretty dang good. Sean William Scott's character got irritating at times but the film had a fun script and visually was interesting with the bright colors in the grocery store the two worked at competing for a Store Manager position within that company. It's currently on DVD and is sure to surprise.

#10 What Happens in Vegas (8) (No Review)

I remember when I saw this movie I was reeling from the Lakers loss to the Jazz in Game 4 of the NBA Playoffs tying the series up at 2 games. So I went to the movie theater to give me some-what of a pick me up. Ultimately it didn't make me forget the pain from that loss, but for those 99 minutes I had a fun movie experience. Rob Corddry though stole the show as "Hater." Corddry is an up-and-coming actor on the comedy circuit. This is a fun love story and Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz have a connection that sets it off as being real which makes it even more entertaining to watch.

#11 Kung Fu Panda (7.5) (No Review)

The only catch when going to this movie for me was hearing the voices of such actors as Seth Rogen, David Cross, Angelina Jolie and Jack Black starring as "Po" a love able Panda who is stuck working as a soup maker with his father. But deep down Po dreams of being a Kung Fu Ninja and being alongside some of his heroes, known as the "Furious Five."

This movie started slow for me but once it picked up I found myself fully invested in the film by the end.

#12 House Bunny (7) (Review)

In Adam Sandler's directorial debut, it was a very good start. Ana Ferris is just a lovable character on screen, playing the ditsy Playboy Bunny to a T. Ferris along with Emma Stone (Superbad), Kat Dennings (Charlie Bartlett) were all fun to watch on screen. Had some great laughs and isn't just a chick flick. Go see it fellas!

#13 Pineapple Express (7) (Review)

My initial review on this film had a 8 rating. After seeing it for a 2nd time it just wasn't deserving of a 8 in my opinion. This movie was definitely the biggest let down for me this movie season. Don't get me wrong I still laughed in moments hysterically especially at lines delivered by McBride (Foot Fist Way). But this film just didn't have the chemistry that the previous Apatow projects had. Seth Rogen's character in this one was not his best outing in my opinion. James Franco was so believable as a stoner in Saul Silver but again the film didn't have the chemistry that have become a main-stay on Apatow projects and the action scenes were bad for a film that was priding themselves on the action. Scenes carried too long and the film as a whole was a bit long. It's still funny at times but not the greatest outing for Rogen, Apatow and crew. I just over hyped the hell out of it, so maybe that's why it didn't live up to the expectations set by myself.

#14 Hancock (7) (Review)

Hancock was a film that had the potential to be great and was a major let down in the second half of the movie. Will Smith still has box office appeal and is a good actor. Jason Bateman was his Arrested Development-self on screen which was fun to see but the film could of been so much better than it what it turned out to be. The whole Charlize Theron thing was a tad bit odd to say the least.

#15 The Strangers (7) (No Review)

Similar to when I saw, What Happens in Vegas, I saw The Strangers after a Lakers game. But this team it was after clinching the Western Conference Championship over the Spurs and headed for the NBA Finals. So I wanted to celebrate with my friend. After realizing we live in Salt Lake City where everything is literally done at 10 p.m. we went to see the midnight showing of the horror film that has been on commercials for a solid year it seemed like.

Plain and simple this movie is weird as hell and I left the theater thinking what the F@%K did I just pay to see but as I thought about the movie more in my down time. I really thought it was quite scary and had a realistic, creepy feel that there are just some downright freaks out there who want to torture people just to torture them.

#16 Disaster Movie (4) (Review)

I have already given this movie too high of praise according to most critics, just read the review before I say anything else to lose more credibility. Oh hell I will admit I had moments where I laughed. Okay lynch me!

#17 College (4) (No Review)

I saw College at a $1 theater two weeks ago. At the time it had been in theaters for only two weeks. I was a bit surprised to say the least. But after seeing it you will fully know why. I'm a sucker for the whole "College" themed movies where classes, text books, tests and the reality of college are nowhere to be found so I had to check this out. I wasn't really impressed.

This movie was supposed to be in the category of Revenge of the Nerds, Animal House, Van Wilder and other college classics and it didn't even scratch the surface of those. Andrew Caldwell who played as "Carter" was funny at times but it got to the point where he was obnoxious. The whole thing is worth skipping, it's nothing you haven't seen in a frat house style movie.

#18 Love Guru (3) (No Review)

Fuck Mike Meyers!!! Jessica Alba your still awesome even if you pick horrible roles for yourself. Anyone that picks this up on DVD should literally be ashamed. When the best part of your film is two elephants having sex, you know there are some serious problems.

How many times can we honestly use Verne Troyer already? Oh did I mention Troyer was in College too? Yeah, seriously. Troyer is a mighty pile of douchery, I'm sick of seeing his midget ass. The only reason this didn't get a 1 on the review was because Romany Malco is a really good actor, Stephen Colbert and Jim Gaffigan make a few appearances as commentators and Kanye West had a brief sighting in the stands at the Game 7 scene. Other than that kiss it Meyers.

#19 Meet Dave (1) (Review)

Thank god it was free is all I've got to say. Eddie Murphy lost all credibility with this one in my opinion.

The Foot Fist Way on DVD is a must buy!

My Review

Yesterday on DVD Tuesday, one of my favorite movies of the 2008 Summer Movie season came out; The Foot Fist Way starring up-and-coming comedy star, Danny McBride.

The movie is hillarious for the credit card budget it was filmed on. It's so difficult to make a funny movie on a low budget and with a no-name cast but this crew has captured it and these guys will be household names in the comedy world very soon. Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Ben Best (Superbad, What Happens in Vegas) are the crew and they have fit in great with the Apatow guys getting cameos and appearances in his films.

TFFW is a great indie film and beats the hell out of Napoleon Dynamite. It disgusted me seeing the quote on the cover from movie critic Nathan Lee of the The New York Times, he said, "The best thing of its kind since NAPOLEON DYNAMITE." These films are not even close to one another! The only similarities are that they are indies and they were huge hits at Sundance Film Festivals.

If your wondering where you can purchase TFFW, there is only one option: Best Buy. TFFW is a Best Buy exclusive at $19.99 you can get the film. I've looked on the web and Amazon doesn't even have it. Best Buy is literally your only option for this movie. I didn't even see the movie at a local Blockbuster Video, so I'm not sure if it's available for a rent either. Netflix does have it though, through their services.

The DVD itself is very plain. The disc is a wash look which I've noticed is the case with Paramount DVDs. The special features contain 20 deleted scenes which are a riot and an alternate ending that is sure to make you laugh. Go see this film as soon as you can! You won't be disappointed!

Will Ferrell's unknown film and other DVDs I purchased recently

Last week, I sold my Xbox 360, due to lack of use. Rock Band and Guitar Hero were losing their luster. I could only play "Barracuda" so many times before I said enough is enough. So I sold it. But with that said, I was out of a DVD player now. I was using the Xbox as my DVD player. So I went to go purchase a new DVD player along with some new DVDs.

I purchased a Toshiba DVD recorder that converts DVDs to 720p HD as well. Which is great for my 32" LG HDTV. The recording feature is awesome so now I can have football games, movies, etc. on DVD which is sweet.

While I was at Best Buy purchasing the DVD player I picked up a few DVDs. One of them was a total surprise and I had to pick it up.

"Men Seeking Women" was the title of the film that caught me eye. Not only did it have a picture of some woman's massive clevage showing it also had my favorite actor, Will Ferrell on it. It looked to be a film that was from the 90s which was true, it was made in 1997. It was only $4.99 so I thought it was worth a go. I'm intrigued to see how it is. I'm not going to look up anything on it yet till I actually watch it. Then I will post a review.

- Hard Candy (My Review)

This movie was only $5 as well, and I thought it's not a film you can watch over and over, but it's a great Ellen Page film and worth having in a collection. Page is simply outstanding.

- Teen Wolf & Teen Wolf Too

Did anyone else know there was a sequel to Teen Wolf? And Jason Bateman starred in it! I loved Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox. It was a film I always saw on a channel like TBS or TNT on a Sunday morning while growing up. I'm intrigued to see the sequel with Bateman. I don't have high hopes with sequels usually being busts. But hey, it's not everyday you see a wolf in college. Right?

- What Happens in Vegas

A film from this past Summer starring Ashton Kutcher, Cameron Diaz and Rob Corddry. This movie didn't have the highest of reviews but I found it to be really funny. Corddry's character, "Hater" was hillarious in it and Dennis Miller's cameo as a judge was alright too. The movie is good and is a fun movie for dates. I picked up the 2-Disc version and it comes with a digital copy that I can put on my iPod which is really cool.

Disaster Movie is a Disaster but was good for some laughs

Two months ago, I said I would never see one of the spoof "Movie" films again, after seeing the god awful Superhero Movie. Well, I decided to see Disaster Movie while still waiting for my flight out of the Northwest. So if you get my drift I just did the hop over to another theater trick after I saw House Bunny. If your judging me right now, oh well. I'm not lucky enough to have a pass from the Academy to see whatever I want for free. And I sure as hell was not going to fork over money for this one. But with it being free, I was willing to give it a shot.

Disaster Movie was directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, yeah the guys who watch way too many movies, according to the trailer. They keep putting out these spoof films quick knowing the money is going to run dry soon so capitalize while they can. Disaster Movie took six months to film, which shows you the kind of mindset they have with these films. Get them done fast and make bank bro! Well...I don't think this is going to make bank.

As for the film it self, it was much more funny then Superhero Movie. I really enjoyed Crista Flanagan as "Juney" (Juno) and Hannah Montana. Flanagan was a former MadTV personality and was really funny in this film, almost mastering the Juno persona. Then G. Thang as "Calvin" was hillarious. No idea who the hell this G. Thang guy was but he was pretty damn funny on screen. These two were the best. Kim Kardashian and Carmen Electra were a waste of screen space. Do these directors really think Carmen Electra is that great still she's 37 years old for hell's sake. Kardashian is hot but has no acting ability what so ever. None. Zip. Zilch. Nothin' Nada!

The plot was horrible like any of these spoof movies. There is really nothing in the film that incorporates a Disaster persay just a bunch of random references to movies this past summer. But with that said, it's the only reason you will get a few laughs out of this film is because it shows stuff you have probably seen in the past year.

The House Bunny is Revenge of the Nerds for women

Before I left the great Northwest I killed some time at a local theater while waiting for my flight. I had seen most of the movies they were offering already so I decided to go with House Bunny starring Anna Faris. It looked cheesy but still it was a Happy Madison production so it was worth a shot.

Having that attitude was probably the reason I enjoyed House Bunny. It's just a fun, silly romance about this Playboy Bunny, Shelley (Faris) who is kicked out of the Playboy Mansion, where she has lived her whole life and now has to find a way to live on her own.

After a run-in with the law, attempting to suck on Dan Patrick's pecker (no I'm not joking) she finally lands upon some Fraternity and Sorority houses at a local college campus. She is in awe because they look like tiny Playboy Mansion's so she tries to find out ways to get in but realizes she needs to be a student. Until she finds out about a sorority that is looking for a house mother, called ZETA. The ZETA girls are all a bunch of geeky, smart, loser girls who want to be cool but have no idea in hell how to do it so Shelley looks like a perfect fit considering she is involved with Playboy and knows a thing a two about getting attention.

Shelley gets the gig as the House Mother and from there needs to help the ZETA girls get enough pledges so they can keep their sorority and not lose their building to the sorority that is filled with a bunch of jackasses, I don't remember what their sorority's name is but think of the Alpha Betas from Revenge of the Nerds and you get the idea.

From there Shelley is helping the girls become more popular and teach them ways to talk to guys and along the way find pledges to keep the house. But amidst all that she meets a guy named Oliver (Colin Hanks) that she falls for. When her and Oliver go out, Oliver isn't falling for any of her usual sexual tricks to entice men. So the formerly nerdy Zeta girls help her become smarter to impress 'ol Oliver.

Final Thought

Again, it's a cheesy film. A perfect date movie so don't have high hopes for it. If you go with that attitude you will enjoy it; and if your a fan of the Adam Sandler group you will get a kick out of the cameos that are filled with all of Sandler's buddies. Did you expect anything less with a Happy Madison production?

I've been in Seattle and I'm very Sleepless

Hey everyone! Long time no see! Sorry I haven't posted any updates the past month, I have been in Seattle for business and pleasure. It was a great time. I saw a few movies out there and I'm going to post my reviews on those in the coming days. It's good to be back and I'm excited to start reviewing films for the Fall season. Should be fun.

I'm also going to do a summary of the Summer films I saw and just recap what were the highlights of the exciting Summer movie season.

Again, it's good to be back.

Tropic Thunder Review: Big-Time Budget = Big-Time Laughs

There is always one or two movies every year that you feel like you have seen promos for that film for about a solid year and you feel you must see it after all the campaigning. This was one of the those films. With a $90 Million budget this movie has some expectations and from my account it lived up to the hype.

Review

My expectations of this film were moderate. I'm a comedy junkie so I had to see it regardless of all the hype surrounding it. I love comedy and I always enjoy Ben Stiller films (with the exception of his latest binge in children's flicks) so this seemed like a good time but I again the expectations weren't high. But after I left the theater I thought this movie was really great and very unique. It's the type of film that might change the genre.

The opening of the movie is really cool and interesting. It's a commercial and three different movie trailers giving you an idea who the characters are that you will be seeing in this film. Robert Downey Jr's character, Kirk Lazarus was in a trailer for a movie called, "Satan's Alley" paired up with Spider-Man's Tobey Maguire. Two monks who are gay lovers. It was hillarious.

Then the film dives into the set of the film these actors are currently in about the Vietnam War based on a book by Nick Nolte's character, Four Leaf Tayback who was a veteran in the war and wrote down his experiences. The actors, Stiller (Action Buff), Downey (Award Winner who plays any role), Jack Black (Comedian who has terrible drug addiction), Brandon Jackson (a energy drinkin dude with a lot to say) and Jay Baruchel (Smart guy who doesn't get any chicks). The cast is not working well together so the first-time director under the direction of Four Leaf decides to take these Primadonna's to the forest and film the movie Guerilla style.

From there the actors are dumped off in the middle of nowhere being told there are cameras everywhere in the forest watching their every move. Little do they know they are entering terrain where drug-dealing asians run the place and will kill intruders especially Americans. The actors get put to the test to see if they can actually become the characters they were set to become when they agreed to the project and overcome personal obstacles.

Final Thought

This movie has so many great laughs. Danny McBride is in this as well and he is great as this techy, explosions geek but Tom Cruise's character as Les Grossman is downright hillarious. Almost every line he delivered was great. He was really funny and for once I have respect for Cruise. It's not just a cameo either, he has a significant role in the film along with Matthew McConaughey.

The film has a lot of pop culture references and is a great spoof on how hollywood makes movies and war in general. Great action scenes are in this unlike Pineapple Express and the character development is fun to watch as well. High remarks on this movie.

One more note, don't be misguided by the talk of racism and stereotyping certain types of people. It's not out of hand in my opinion just because a man paints his face is not racist people! Calm down!

- Ben Stiller came up with the idea and starting writing the script for this film back in the late 80s when Vietnam movies were so relevant. But studio execs passed. Stiller started thinking about the film again around 2003 according to an article last week in USA Today.

- Brandon Jackson who plays Alpa Chino has the same birthday as myself; March 7th.

- Jack Black was on the recent issue of Blender magazine talking about the film.

- Jason Bateman has a brief appearance in the movie.

- Matthew McConaughey's character was originally supposed to be played by Frat Pack member and Ben Stiller buddy, Owen Wilson.

Smokin' Aces Review: Jam-packed with action but no substance

Smokin' Aces was a film that came out in 2007 and apparently I didn't get the memo. Which is strange because usually I'm on top of movies that include my favorite actors and one of them is Ryan Reynolds, who is starring in this manly-man action flick directed by Joe Carnahan who was a former furniture mover of eight years. I was looking at my friends DVD collection and he said it was a good flick and I respect his opinion of films so I decided to take a gander. Maybe in the future I will be second-guessing my friends opinion on movies after seeing this.

The film has a star-studded cast other than Reynolds. It has Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Grammy artist Alicia Keys, Ben Affleck, Jeremy Piven, Jason Bateman and even Curtis Armstrong who was "Booger" in the Revenge of the Nerds movies. You can't go wrong if you have "Booger" in a movie. Can you? This one probably did.

Review

The movie basically revolves around character Buddy "Aces" Israel, who is a big-time entertainer in Las Vegas and does magic tricks. Amidst all that he is in the middle of the FBI's pursuit to bring down the Nevada mafia. Buddy has agreed to tell info on the mafia to the FBI and that causes all these hit-men to lock and load to Lake Tahoe where Buddy is staying in a secluded Penthouse suite to try and kill him off for a $1 Million jackpot to the assasin who kills "Aces" which of course is set by the Mafia.

The FBI is manned by Richard Messner (Reynolds) and Donald Carruthers (Liotta) who have been on the mafia case for awhile and are heading to Lake Tahoe to safely get "Aces" out of Lake Tahoe so they can talk with him to bring down the mob. Standing in their way is the Alicia Keys who is a contract killer and she is looking fine as hell in this movie. But she is going there acting like a prostitute because Buddy loves his pussy and then she blows the man up and gets the cash. Then there are three redneck brothers who are The Tremor Brothers and they will kill anything and anyone in any shape or form, so they are hot on the trail as well to kill Buddy.

Are you confused yet? Well that's pretty much how I felt watching this movie. Well, on second thought it wasn't necessarily confusing it was just a waste of time that I will never get back.

The whole thing was a joke and at the end of the movie your thinking what the hell did I just watch? Ryan Reynolds gives a solid act along with Jeremy Piven but this movie isn't worth a damn and I have no idea in hell why my friend purchased it on DVD.

With that said, it did have cool action scenes, Alicia Keys was very hot, the DVD cover looked wickidly cool and Jason Bateman's character needed to be in the film it was hillarious. But this film was boring and had so many twists and turns but no real final result comes out of it.

Pineapple Express was a funny film. But sort of a letdown

I'm one of those people who gets overly excited for things. As you can see from how I got pumped up for Step Brothers by buying apparel and mimicking a photo, yeah I love my movies and I get amped up for them. Pineapple Express was no different.

The trailer for this movie was absolutely amazing with the whole Paper Planes song by M.I.A. and just all the scenes they used were great. But after finally seeing the film I left the theater kind of disappointed and that's hard for me to say considering I love the bodies of work the Apatow people have put together but this one, although funny isn't one of their bests.

Seth Rogen who is Dale Denton, 25, is a process server and he loves to smoke weed. He goes to his drug dealer Saul Silver (James Franco) for the best of the best "stuff." Denton has been going to Silver for the past two months. Dale goes over to Saul's one afternoon after seeing his 18 year-old girlfriend (Amber Heard) at her high school. Dale promised later that night he would go to his girlfriends house for dinner to finally meet her parents but the visit to see Saul would change his plans for the evening and possibly his life.

Dale finally gets to Saul's and Saul introduces him to some weed that only he has in all of Clark County; and that is called "Pineapple Express." Dale bought a quarter's worth and went on his marry way ditching Saul who wanted to chill and hang out with Dale. Later that evening, Dale is smoking a joint of his Pineapple Express weed when all of a sudden he looks to his left and sees the man he is supposed to deliver a supoena to killing an asian man. Dale sees this and bolts backing into a cop car in the process. You have probably seen the scene I'm describing numerous times in the trailer and let me say this, that scened was executed much better in the trailer than the movie. Kind of depressing because I always got such great laughs from hearing him cough in that scene, maybe it was just overkill from seeing it so many times.

From there, Dale goes back to Saul's to tell him what happened and they bolt the apartment and go on the run after realizing the man who shot the asian man is a drug lord and would easily track down Saul and Dale after smelling the joint Dale left behind at the scene. Then a action packed movie with numerous twists and turns ensues.

Final Thought

If your going into this film expecting something similar to Knocked Up, 40 Year-Old Virgin or Superbad, that is not going to happen. This is a dark comedy similar to Hot Fuzz with a lot of action but more one-liners. The execution on this movie didn't seem as exact on most Apatow films. Franco was very funny as Saul. I hope to see him in more Apatow movies, we probably will considering he was an original cast member with the show, Freeks and Geeks a show that Apatow produced back in the mid-90s. Also Danny McBride (The Foot Fist Way) as Red was very funny and he had many great lines.

It's a funny movie and worth a viewing in the theaters but I'm not sure on the replay value. Some scenes in the movie were too long and the action scenes were dull and really fake. The film is 111 minutes long, which is normal for an Apatow movie but this one could of had 20 minutes knocked off of it. It's the buddy movie for adults like Superbad was for teens has that friendship bonding in it which is cool.

- Orignially when writing the screenplay, Seth Rogen had himself slated to play the role of Saul.

- When Saul comes out of the convenient store with slushees for him and Dale, the cups he has have the same logo as the one Michael Cera's character, Evan has in the movie Superbad.

- Seth Rogen decided Danny McBride would be best suited for the role of "Red" after seeing The Foot Fist Way back in 2006.

Heading Out to See Pineapple Express

Another Judd Apatow comedy is upon us folks! The Pineapple Express starring Seth Rogen and James Franco is out today! Executives bumped the release of Pineapple from Friday the 8th to today due to the Olympic opening ceremonies taking place on Friday.

I'm excited. I will post a full report on the film tonight. I might also go catch Step Brothers again and post a full list of Quotes for everyone to enjoy!

Mad Money Review: WTF? This movie came out this year?

So I watched Mad Money tonight with my girlfriend who had some movies from Blockbusters. The options were either Mad Money, Tomb Raider or something else that I really don't remember. I was the one choosing and I decided to go with Mad Money. The only thing I remember was that Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes and that old hag Keaton is in it and they steal a whole lot of money.

After watching the movie and looking up some info on the web I had no idea this movie was out this year and just barely came out on DVD three months ago. I thought for sure this movie was out about two or three years ago when Katie Holmes was actually relevant in society.

Other than the surprise that this god-awful movie was released this year it was a nightmare to watch. Diane Keaton's character was so damn annoying. She's this reach S.O.B. married to Ted Danson and they are in $250,000 of debt, somewhere in that range don't remember the exact figure. But it was a lot. So Keaton's brilliant idea is to get a job, something she has never done before in her entire life.

She ends up with a gig as a janitor at a Kansas City bank and the first thing she thinks of is snatching hords and hords of cash, but first things first to complete this! Find a crew. Oh yay cue in Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes. Dear god kill me now. Did I mention that Keaton is an old hag who has a sweaty sack?

I don't want to post any more on this film it was just terrible and ridiculous. The moral of the story on this movie...don't steal money from banks or the IRS and you will have a good life and maybe don't buy $62,000 rings then you won't be in a quarter million dollars worth of debt. Smoooth.

This avoids a 1 simply because Danson (pictured) is respectable. He was on Cheers for pete's sake and he's married to Mary Steenburgen the mom from Step Brothers. So that gets an extra point.

Picked up The Ladies Man for $5.99 and I now realize why it was so cheap

The Ladies Man is a movie that came out in 2000 starring Tim Meadows based on the Saturday Night Live sketch with the same title, "The Ladies Man."

I saw this at FYE and figured why not for only $5.99, so I bought it. I like Tim Meadows and I found out Will Ferrell was in it so I had to get it. Well after seeing the entire film it's apparent why it's 5.99.

Meadows is Leon Phelps who has a radio show titled The Ladies Man late at nights but he gets fired along with his friend Julie Simmons (Karyn Parsons) so they are both out of work looking to continue their radio careers together. In the midst of searching for new jobs and banging random women The Ladies Man starts to realize he wants more out of his life than just random women all the time and starts to fall for Julie. The movie has many random twists and turns, it gets somewhat boring at times.

Will Ferrell as I mentioned earlier is in it as Lance DeLune a Greco-Roman wrestler who is obviously gay and yet he is married to Tiffani Thiessen's character, Honey. Ferrell was hillarious in everything he said. That man is just amazing. I'm biased as all hell but damn he is great even in mediocre at best films.

Ferrell's character though forms an alliance for all the men who have had wives or girlfriends that have had sex with The Ladies Man. Their mission is to kill Leon and the cast of characters they have trying to kill him is poor at best.

Final Thought

If your a Ferrell fan, watch it simply for him. You have to be a fanboy to enjoy this film that's why I don't mind having it in my collection of DVDs. Will I watch a lot? Probably not.

Haven't been able to see anything lately

Sorry for the lack of posts this past week. Two factors have played into that. Haven't had internet and I haven't seen any movies. So my vacation is behind me now and the blog is not dead so continue to visit! :)

A side note:

I'm contemplating moving the blog over to WordPress. I just don't know how to get my SiteMeter tracker over on there. I just like the overall layout and feel better over there than here on Blogger. Does anyone have a WordPress site with SiteMeter?

Step Brothers: Ferrell and Reilly Make Another Comedy hit

It's hard to put into words my thoughts on Step Brothers because I absolutely loved every minute of it. Now let me tell you, it's not the best FILM I have seen this summer; that of course will go to The Dark Knight. But in terms of entertainment and a laugh out loud time, Step Brothers takes the cake.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are simply the perfect combination together on screen. It was great seeing these two on screen again. It's not everyday you see two well-known comedians share the spotlight in a film. But these two are very unselfish and realize they feed off each other very well.

Step Brothers is about two 40 year-old men who become step-brothers after Brennan's (Ferrell) mom and Dale's (Reilly) dad get married after a hot steamy visit to the Catalina. Dale and Brennan at the start to not like each other at all. They feel the other has ruined their perfect life and they don't want to deal with the addition to the family. It was hillarious when Reilly's character Dale told Brennan that the only reason that his dad married Brennan's mom was because him and his dad were going to bang her. It was that kind of humor but through it all it had that Apatow sincerity and love that made it a "sweet" film yet crude at the same time.

The cast other than Ferrell and Reilly is great. Many regulars from Apatow films make appearances in the film including a cameo from Seth Rogen who is the Boss at Sporting Goods store where Dale and Brennan interview for while wearing tuxedos. I was ready to bust out in applause when I saw Rogen haha.

Final Thought

This movie from start to finish was hillarious. So many one-liners in this film were great. The one-liners have become a staple in the Apatow films, and their always great.

I'm definitely going to make another appearance at a local theatre to see this movie. It was hillarious. Go see it, if your looking for a fun, funny summer comedy this is it!

- After the final credits are over there is a quick scene with Brennan and Dale in their bedroom. Dale in that scene is wearing a green recycling shirt. The same one that can be seen in his sketch over at FunnyorDie.com titled, "GREEN TEAM".

- Reilly at the beginning of the movie is playing Guitar Hero III.

Ellen Page Continues to Amaze Me. Hard Candy Review

Back in 2005, a controversial film titled "Hard Candy" came out starring Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson. Last night, I had the opportunity to see this movie for the first time and it was definitely controversial.

Page is a 14 year-old girl named "Haley" who meets a 32 year old man (Wilson) named Jeff who she met online. Haley suspects that Jeff is a pedophile and she wants to get revenge on him for all the pain and suffer he has caused to little girls. But first she plays into Jeff's little games of smooth talking the innocent looking Haley by saying she acts much older than her age.

The two go back to Jeff's place. Jeff is of course this "photographer" and wants to take some shots of Haley for modeling purposes and it could lead to something big he tells Haley. But Haley isn't buying one bit of it. She is questioning his every move from drinks to why he has pictures of young girls on the walls, she is onto him but he still felt like he was in control of the situation; until he started to get light headed and dizzy. Haley drugged him and tied him up to a chair with rope.
The reason she did this was that she could have free reign of the house to find all the evidence that Jeff is a pedophile like she suspects. From there the movie gets more and more intense, and the element of surprise is definitely there. You don't know what's going to happen in this film. It's tense and powerful stuff to witness. Sometimes your wondering why in the world doesn't Haley just call the police and let them take care of it but she tortures Jeff like he did to his many victims and you definitely pull for her in the film, even though her tactics are off base.

Final Thought

Every time I watch a film starring Ellen Page I fall in love with her acting skills more and more. She's just an outstanding talent who can pull off any role. In this film she has short hair which I must say isn't her most attractive look but she can still pull it off. She's just great.

Patrick Wilson definitely came off as a pedophile. He had the sophisticated guy look going on but he gives off a creepy 14 year-old lovin' freek vibe that creeps me out and makes the movie even more entertaining.

This is a tense film. Only adults should be viewing this film in my opinion. Maybe younger girls to show them they can have the power to stand up to these internet pedophile creeps but this isn't the best method to stand up to them according to this film if you ask me.

- Ellen Page's online chat name is "thonggirl14" while Jeff's is "camguy319"

- The movie was filmed in 18 days and the budget was less than a $1 Million.

Getting Ready for Step Brothers!!

Step Brothers the next comedy by the Judd Apatow camp starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly is coming out this Friday and I just can't wait!

Will Ferrell is of course my favorite actor so I have bias as to why I can't wait for the film but none the less I'm stoked!

Remember when I posted that I wanted to re-enact the photo of Ferrell and Reilly that was currently on my notebook wallpaper? Well me and my friend finally did.

Here's the photo we tried to master, for those of you who were too lazy to click on the link.

It's a pretty tough act, but me and my friend Justin did try and here was our best take.

So what do you think? Did we measure up well compared to the comedic masterminds of Ferrell and Reilly?

Also, if you have seen the Step Brothers trailer you will notice at the beginning that Ferrell's character Brennan is wearing a "Pablo Cruise" baseball shirt. That
shirt is being shipped to my house as we speak. :) Hopefully it gets here by Friday that would be awesome.

I ordered it over at the The Cruise Shop the official fan shop for the band. Yeah, Pablo Cruise is a band for those of you who didn't know.

But I'm stoked to get this. I'm contemplating putting all my clothing influenced by movies together and taking a picture of it to show all of you how much movie garb I have.

DVD Tuesday: Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner! 21 is on sale

"21" the film based on the novel, Bringing Down The House is the story of MIT students who counted cards and basically took a whole lot of cash from the hotels in Vegas.

This was a really fun film and definitely worth the purchase. Ben Campbell was played by Jim Sturgess a wiz-kid who is an excellent student and hard worker. His dream is to go to MIT but financially he can't afford it. In order to pay for the $300,000 tuition he takes up counting cards and the madness ensues from there. Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth and Laurence Fishbourne round up the cast. This is definitely worth checking out.

Young People F**king Review (Yes that's the Title)

Young People Fucking. That's the title. Most films don't even allow that word in their script or in a trailer let alone the title. But none the less as a young person I was intrigued haha. It was Rated R so you knew going in you weren't going to see anything in terms of...well you can just go to Google if you want to find out.

Review

Even with the title being racy this Indie Comedy was a riot at times but then in other parts it dragged. The film is about five different couples who are each having sexual encounters. The five couples are the following:

- The Friends
- The Roomates
- The Couple
- First Date
- The Exes

Each one of these scenarios is dead on in terms of the setting and the dialouge. The funniest ones to watch were The Friends and The Roomates. The Friends were of course best friends for many years and each were coming out of bad relationships and they just wanted to drink and have sex with a person they could trust. But at the same time they felt awkward and kept saying things you would hear from two best friends of the opposite sex. Fun stuff to watch and you could relate. I just didn't understand how the guy couldn't help but get with Carly Pope (TV show "24", pictured). Absolutely gorgeous woman.

With the roomates the setting was these two guys who were roomates. One of them who wasn't your stereo-typical attractive male had this gorgeous girlfriend, and since he was moving out soon and leaving his roomate he wanted his roomate to have sex with his girlfriend. His thoughts were it would change things up for his girlfriend and he would get off by watching it...with cookie dough in his hand the whole time as well, which was hillarious.

The other three couples just weren't as funny. "The Couple" was dead on though how they were bored with each other and it had been three weeks since they had sex so they went to extreme measures. You will just have to see it.

The sexual encounter these five couples had was broken into six parts so you knew what point they were at and it gave you a good idea how far along the film was. They were:

i. Prelude
ii. Foreplay
iii. Sex
iv. Interlude
v. Orgasm
vi. Afterglow

Final Thought

The movie had some funny moments but overall there were times when you just felt awkward watching it. I came away impressed with the cast but Carly Pope and Ennis Esmer the character who wasn't your stereo-typical nice looking male with a hot chick impressed me the most.

But what I did like about the movie was that it was realistic and you could relate to a lot of those situations. It was fun to see and I would recommend people under 35 to see it. Definitely for that demographic.

Added Three New DVDs to My Collection

After work today (yes I have an actual job and don't just watch movies all the time) I went to F.Y.E. to just browse. I ended up purchasing the following DVDs:

- Fight Club (Special Edition)

This one is a classic. I used to have it on VHS but I have no idea where it's at so I purchased the Special Edition version. I noticed it in the employee recommendations section at F.Y.E. and Michael requested it, so thank you Michael you hairy son of a B! Anyone who hasn't seen this probably needs to walk their ass into on-coming traffic. Damn great!

- Get Rich or Die Tryin'

50 Cent proved he could act in this flick. In my opinion a better gangster film, then American Gangster. This film was also big due to 50 Cent being at the top of his game at this point in 2005. Saw this on USA recently and thought I needed to add this to my collection, and the price of $6.99 wasn't bad either.

The Dark Knight Exceeded all the Hype. Historic Film.

Plain and simple, this movie is going to go down as a classic. According to votes by users on IMDB.com, The Dark Knight has beat out The Godfather as the #1 film on IMDB. Pretty remarkable how much praise this film is receiving. But don't be fooled it lives up to everything people are saying. I was skeptical going in, but after 2 1/2 hours went by I was in awe of the film. It was something else to say the least.

Review

It's hard to give a general summary of this film, it was just unbelievable from start to finish. I was captivated by all aspects of this film. The acting was remarkable, writing, visuals, special effects, just everything pretty much gave me that "WOW" factor.

But the biggest "WOW" definitely goes to the late Heath Ledger as The Joker. He definitely stole the show. In every scene he was in you just never knew what would take place. He was so much better than the Jack Nicholson's portrayl of The Joker and that's nothing against Jack, it's just Ledger's performance was more to the Comic Book version with being a complete psychopath who was capable of anything at any given time. And after finally seeing this film, he definitely deserves a Posthumous Oscar. I'm all for it. The guy flat out deserves it. He is one of the best villains/characters I have ever seen on film. In any genre, he was simply captivating.

Then there's Christian Bale who probably etched his mark as the best Batman yet. Bale portrays Bruce Wayne and Batman so well. He's a natural fit.

Maggie Gyllenhall gave a much better performance than Katie Holmes who was nothing exciting in the first one and Aaron Eckhart was solid as Harvey Dent and Two-Face. This cast was terrific.

It's sad to think if they continue with The Joker there will be no Ledger. It just wouldn't be the same after this great performance. I just don't know how anyone could replace Ledger. He was outstanding.

The film was very dark, but I like that with Batman films. People always "mitch and boan" about that but it's a BAT! Bats tend to come out at night in the dark! Sorry the BATman can't make Noon appearances while your eating your $5 Footlong at SUBWAY you assmunch.

Final Thought

Go see this film! Even if your not the biggest fan of comic book movies like me, you will love this movie. I honestly have no idea how anyone could rate this movie low. It's a masterpiece.

Meet Dave: Eddie Murphy is Officially Done

Meet Dave. We all know how it tanked in the box office in it's opening weekend, well after seeing it I actually think $5 Million was a success. This movie is terrible terrible terrible! I'm just lucky I had a free viewing of it. This was hands down the worst movie I have seen this year and I had extremely low expectations going into it. Eddie Murphy is done. Note to Eddie: Quit doing idiotic family films that have no plot, no substance, terrible acting and you are playing 3/4 of the cast.

Eddie Murphy's career is officially over in my book. Untill he starts taking more serious roles or better comedies, I will never view another one of his films again!

One more thing, Elizabeth Banks needs to just stick to pleasuring herself with shower heads in The 40 Year-Old Virgin. That was some terrible acting as well.

I'm not going to waste my time anymore on this movie.

The Tracey Fragments is Visually Entertaining

A few days ago I was on one of my favorite websites, IMDB. I was on there to see my favorite actress' page to what movies she had coming up. I, of course was on Ellen Page's uhhh...page? And this is where I found the film, The Tracey Fragments.

It caught my attention when I saw the short description for the plot, "15-year-old Tracey Berkowitz is naked under a shower curtain at the back of a bus, looking for her little brother Sonny, who thinks he's a dog."

After reading that it was time to make a trip to Blockbuster to check this film out.

I found it at Blockbuster and the cover was really eye-catching with Ellen Page on the far right of the over with pieces of her coming off within pictures inside the pieces. Almost like, "FRAGMENTS." So from seeing that I figured this was going to be a life-story about some ho-hum 15 year-old teenager. But it's not just some ho-hum 15 year-old it's a smokin' hot Ellen Page who was 20 at the time of production haha.

Review

The Tracey Fragments is a definitely a film that is in "Fragments" the whole film has numerous shots on the screen at one time and depicts the feelings of this character, Tracey Berkowitz very well. (Look at picture above) For example, when things were getting very tense the music and the fragments would fit the setting with faster moving shots. You don't see many films shot like this, it was something else from that aspect.

At the beginning of the film you will be thinking to yourself, "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?" It's odd and has so many twists and turns at the beginning and it's hard to hard to not think this movie is just a waste of your time but as the movie progresses and by the end of it all you understand pretty much what's going on. But at the same time, it's crazy as hell. One minute your seeing Page run away from home then the next minute your seeing high school bullies calling her, "IT" because she has no tits as they put it. It moves back and forth throughout and shows all the difficulties this innocent 15 year-old girl goes through.

Ellen Page

Ellen Page is one of the few actresses that could of pulled this role off. She is so good at selling the loner teenager character and giving it a real-life effect that people could relate to. She is so talented, it's amazing.

Final Thought

If your a movie buff like most of the people that read this blog, you will probably want to see this. I wouldn't recommend this film to the casual moviegoer. It's a fun film to watch visually, but as I stated earlier it jumps around so much throughout the film that it annoyed me sometimes and it was hard to understand what was going on. Also, there's a key part of the plot that doesn't get resolved so that was annoying as well. Ellen Page was the reason I saw this and that was the only thing other than the visuals that I really came away impressed with. Page can flat out act and is going to be a main-stay in Hollywood for many many years.

With that said, see this if your Ellen Page fan and movie buff other than that I don't think you enjoy it. It's definitely not a main-stream type of movie.

iDance WALL·E Dancing to his Soundtrack

I have the iDance WALL·E that dances to music from a iPod, so today I figured I would purchase the soundtrack with the tracks from the film, including the song WALL·E dances to in the movie, "Put on Your Sunday Clothes" by Michael Crawford & Company. It's a fun song to listen to and it reminds you of the film.

The entire soundtrack is 38 tracks but only three of them are over three minutes in length. It's a quick sounding score with the sounds from the film.

It's fun seeing WALL·E dance to the music on this iDance. It's a good combo. For the record, I have seen many people online posting questions asking where they can find the iDance WALL·E. I found mine at Blockbuster Video here in Salt Lake, a week ago. So I would assume Blockbusters in bigger markets would have it as well. I've seen some people bidding on these dancing WALL·E's for up to $75, which is insance considering they are only $25 at the retail amount. So look at Blockbuster.

For the record, I'm trying to upload a video of my WALL·E dancing to some music on YouTube, but the Upload feature is down. Is anyone else having this problem?

Listening to the music and seeing WALL·E dance makes me want to see the movie again. :)

In Bruges is a dark comedy that mixes tons of F-Bombs with great laughs

The dark comedies based out of Europe continue to pump out very good films. First Shaun of the Dead, then Hot Fuzz where Simon Pegg starred in both; then comes In Bruges a film starring Collin Farrell (this is a role completely new to him and he's great), Brenden Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. In Bruges had a limited release back in February of this year and only grossed close to $8 million in 17 weeks in theaters. So the few people that have actually seen this have came away impressed and I was too.

The movie takes place in Bruges, Belgium which is this ancient gothic town that is a very nice setting, yet at the same time has nothing to do there. Two hitmen, Ken played by Gleeson and Ray played by Farrell are sent there by their boss, Harry Waters played by Fiennes (who you don't see till later in the film) after a recent mission that was very difficult on the both of them. It's during Christmas and Waters wants the two men to stay in Bruges for a couple of weeks and take in the sights and the sounds. Ken is very open minded to the idea of seeing Bruges, but Ken is bored out of his mind and just wants to go to the Pub and get plowed.

While in Bruges the two men talk about the previous mission and try to evaluate their lives and what direction they want to go in. Amidst all the serious moments there is still many moments for laugh out loud behavior, and many "F-Bombs." I counted 129 "F-Bombs" in a movie that is only 105 minutes long. But the thing with all the usage of the "bombs" is that they are used within context and it sets the mood for the scene.

I think many people have decided to not watch this film, simply because it starts slow and you need to think about things. But it's well worth your time. After every scene the excitement builds, and your wondering what's going to happen next.

The character development in this movie is exceptional as well. Each character has their moments of struggle. From watching it, I thought the movie also showed that violence isn't the answer to things. You see that through Ray's character when he is struggling to cope with things as a hitman and wonders if he needs to choose a new path in life.

This is a smart comedy that has you thinking and I wouldn't be surprised if this movie is up for Oscar nominations. Roger Ebert considers it one of the best movies of 2008. Only time will tell.

I'm definitely going to buy this one on DVD. Very good movie, that has great replay value because you can't capture everything after just one viewing.

DVD Tuesday: The DVDs are terrible this week. But there's a cool video game

The Bank Job? Meh. College Road Trip? What has happened to you Martin Lawrence, your working with Donny Osmond??? Bleh. Oh well. With the poor selection of DVD releases today, there was one release worth mentioning and that was, NCAA Football 09.

This is something I look forward to every year. I have purchased the game every year since 1999 (2000 edition) when former Texas RB and current pot-smoking conoceur Ricky Williams graced the cover.

The game has came a long ways since the days of PSOne. I have the game for XBox 360 and it's sweet so far. I'm excited that my favorite team, BYU is finally rated somewhat high on the game. Especially on Offense with an 88 Offensive rating. Which is very good. I already have all the names on the rosters ready to go. So I'm ready to start up my Dynasty.

Anyone else here play NCAA Football? If so, what's your gamertag? Mine is LakerCoug.

The Promotion surpassed my expectations

Your probably thinking, what is The Promotion? Well let me bring you up to speed. The Promotion is an indie film directed by Steve Conrad in his directorial debut. Conrad is most well-known for writing the screenplay to The Pursuit of Happyness. The Promotion stars Sean William Scott (Doug Stauber) and John C. Reilly (Richard Wehlner) who are both assistant managers vying for a store director position at a Chicago area grocery store called Donaldson's.

Scott's character appears to be a "shoe-in" according to his current store director (Fred Armisen...who I hate by the way, long story) and with that being told to him him and his wife Jen Stauber (Jenna Fischer) go buy a house and get out of the apartment they are in, and get away from the creepy banjo playing neighbors. Then when everything looks great for Scott, a new Assistant comes to the store he is currently at from Quebec, Richard Wehlner (Reilly). Then the story takes off.

When trying to get a idea of what this film is like, picture "Employee of the Month" only more thought out and not as cut-throat competition. Scott and Reilly would do things to move ahead in the race for the nod that probably everyone would do facing a prominent job promotion.

The film though has been criticized for being classified comedy by critics and not being funny; I found myself laughing out loud many times.

One thing that was odd about this film, was at the beginning of the movie your introduced to Scott's character and you get the idea that you will be pulling for him the whole movie, but the opposite happened for me. As I watched, I was more turned off by Scott's character and found myself pulling for Reilly. Just something that I thought was interesting.

But this was a movie I would definitely like to see again. It was a fun film that had a real life element to it. With people going through real problems. I would purchase this on DVD.

Well it's not about the film, but rather about me. I used to work at a grocery store and I can say when you watch this film the shelves are perfectly faced and stocked. Anyone who has ever been to a grocery store can atest that no store is looking that sharp. But I can say the antics by the "baggers" in this film are legit, and I could relate to them because I was like that haha.

Background on my excitement for this movie

I remember seeing the trailer for this film back in March over at Funny or Die.com and I was psyched to see it, mainly due to the high praise from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, I thought if they love this I GOTTA SEE IT! Immediately after seeing that trailer I saw the IMDB.com profile for the film and noticed it was made in 2006, and thought it might be on DVD already, so acting like an idiot I went to a local FYE without even calling before going so I went to the store sorely disappointed. Hopped back on the computer and did some more in-depth research on the movie, and found out it was coming out May 30th to theaters but limited.

Leading up to May 30th I was hoping to see The Foot Fist Way in Salt Lake City, thinking there was a chance considering the movie took off at Sundance back in '06, so they might show some love for the state of Utah. May 30th came and only LA and NYC had showings of the film. Again, more disappointment. June 6th listings had more locations but none in Utah. I was getting ticked. I would post on the movie's Facebook page saying, "BRING THE FILM TO SALT LAKE! I'M DYING TO SEE IT!" Hoping that would make an impact. Then two weeks later I notice in the Salt Lake Tribune, "The Foot Fist Way" playing at the Tower Theatre in Downtown SLC! WOOOOOO-HOOOOO! I couldn't wait. I was getting sick of watching the red-band trailer so this was exciting.

Film Review

This film had so many laughs and classic quotes, I don't even know where to begin! Danny McBride's character, Fred Simmons is classic and so believable. You feel like he is actually Fred Simmons and is a real Tae Kwon Do instructor.

From watching this film, you could see why Ferrell and McKay loved it. It had the kind of quotes that you would hear from Ferrell. I love the low-budget look to this film. It just works. With a lot of indie comedies, it doesn't but this one it really does and you wonder if this is real-life people and events. I loved it. My only gripe with this movie was the ending. I won't go into detail about it for Spoiler purposes but I wanted to see a different outcome or atleast some notification. You will understand once you see this.

If your a comedy geek like myself and worship The Frat Pack this is a must see. Danny McBride is an up-and-comer and he makes this film a classic. It's going to have an underground fan-base with such few people seeing it. Once it hits DVD I could see more people getting into it. It's a classic.

Superhero Movie was SUPER Terrible

Wow this movie makes The Love Guru look Oscar worthy. I'm not kidding. I knew going in from taking a look at my preview of it, I wasn't expecting greatness but even Epic Movie, Meet The Spartans and Date Movie had some hysterical parts. This Superhero film (which by the way was not made by the people who made the three I mentioned) was just downright awful. The only people that kept me entertained was Jeffrey Tambor (Arrested Development) who was very good as a doctor who was the bearer of bad news and Robert Joy who did a great job as Stephen Hawking, he even looks like the guy. That was some good stuff other than that this movie is a terrible. Then the whole Pamela Anderson thing was a joke. She was in it for about a minute getting in a catfight, but even in the 1 minute that she's in, for about 30 seconds she's invisible. Total joke. I love how these "Movies" promote either Carmen Electra or Pamela Anderson to attract 13 and 14 year olds to the film and they are in it for about a minute. Pathetic.

What's sad about this movie was that it wasn't even funny and that's the whole purpose of spoof movies. I'm sorry but just throwing in farts all the time is not comedy and I'm a person who worships the Dumb and Dumber scene where Harry Dunn is dropping atomic bombs in Mary Swanson's bathroom. So for me to be saying that shows you how pathetic this movie was. And the whole thing was copying the Spider-Man script but they just put their little twists on it. Horrible.

After seeing this, it makes you wonder why stuff like this even hits the big-screen? Then there's stuff from just regular, every-day people who are probably writing brilliant screenplays but they will never get a sniff at the big screen. A shame really. These "Movie" films need to end quick. It's done. I won't see another.

I honestly don't know how anyone could give a positive review on this thing. It's bad. Save your time, I wish I had those 85 minutes back.

DVD Tuesday: Superhero Movie, The Ruins and Channing Tatum beats his fiance

When a "spoof" film is one of the highlights for feature films on DVD Tuesday you know it isn't the greatest Tuesday on the face of the earth but let's examine today's releases.

Superhero Movie

Another spoof film but this one is about Comic Book heroes. Mainly Spider-Man. I'm going to give this movie a chance simply because I have seen all the other spoof movies so I might as well see this one and it has Pamela Anderson. Although old and completely out of date and not looking as attractive as she once did she still has what this film calls, "The Dynamic Duo."

The Ruins

Sadly, I saw this movie in theaters back in April. I saw this with a friend and it was either this or "21." For some damn reason he wanted to see The Ruins, which I thought from jump street looked stupid and it didn't disappoint my expectations.

This film is based on a novel. It's about these two preppy white couples who are on vacation on some island and they are enjoying their time, then they encounter this German man who wants them to go see some ancient 'ruins.' They of course go, when all along your wanting to scream at the screen, "Don't take the German sausage bait you A-Holes!" From there it's a downward spiral that's very bloody and almost disturbing. When your finally done with the film you have no idea what you just watched and why did you waste your time. Maybe worth a RedBox rental if your interested but get a free rental code online. Don't spend money on this thing!

Stop-Loss

Most women will want to see this film due to the men who star in it; Ryan Phillippe and dancing conoceur Channing Tatum. Then add the element that they are soldiers in the Army and you have a late night admiring session by girls eating junk food at 2 a.m. admiring their lovers. As for the film, I remember seeing trailers on this and not being to enthusiastic about it. It's about soldiers returning to normal life and the transition that ensues. That transition involves Channing Tatum beating the hell out of his fiance. Will women still want to dance with him after seeing that? You betcha!

Superbad Talking Pen

"Fanboys" to have original script

The movie that all die-hard Star Wars fans will be relate to, "Fanboys" which will be released later this year has announced they are going to keep the original plot intact and it was an entirely new cut according to director Kyle Newman. Which is good news, from what I have read and heard the original version of Fanboys is much better than the version that was expected to be released in the theaters, as recently as two months ago from when I last checked. I guess a lot of dialouge was going to be cut but that is going to be in-tact now.

Now, I have always been a fan of Star Wars and the movies. Not huge but whenever I watch them I love them and find myself watching them all. But this movie looks to be hillarious. Has a good cast with Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury and Good Luck Chuck), Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up--the canadian dude), Sam Huntington (Not Another Teen Movie) and Chris Marquette from The Girl Next Door.

From seeing the trailer a few times I noticed Seth Rogen is in it and is a Star Trek fan. This looks to be a funny ass flick.

Looking to dress like Hancock?

Of course you are! Well...maybe not. But who doesn't love wearing stuff they see in the movies? I sure love it. Anyone that knows me really well, knows I have problems when it comes to dressing up like movie characters or my favorite celebs. Pathetic? Maybe. But to me, I look forward to the days dressing up like Seth from Superbad, Paulie Bleaker from Juno or Ron Burgundy. I will post pictures sometime of my attire as movie characters some other time but back to Hancock.

For those of you who have seen Hancock, you will notice he wears some cool glasses. Two different pairs during the film, well if your looking for which ones he is wearin here they are.

These shades that Will Smith is wearing in this pic with Jason Bateman are called, "Fitovers." Fitovers are intended to be used to put over your prescribed eyewear. The ones Hancock is wearing are the Navigators. Link

Then finally the shades Smith is wearing in the official poster are actually women's shades.

The Dior Mist 1/S Black which have are a pricey $265 at retail value. People are bashing Smith for going with women's shades because...well...errr...I don't know if I should say. Well can you keep a secret? *Whispering* I have a secret fetish for women's shades. Is that odd for a man who likes to blog? You decide.

Well there you go, go dress up like Hancock and get hammered drunk then go lay on a bench to recover. Movie execs will be flocking to you for a sequel.

I saw this over at the Official Step Brothers website. I'm thinking of doing a re-enactment of this with my buddy, Justin. Only time will tell. But the wallpaper is simply amazing. This movie comes out July 25th and I can't wait.

Hancock is good for about a hour but Will Smith and Jason Bateman shine

The next big Will Smith summer blockbuster opened in theaters today and I went to see a matinee showing.

My expectations for this film had been waivering for some time on it. When I first saw the trailer months ago I really wasn't too excited. But then I looked more into it and it had Jason Bateman who is awesome and all Arrested Development junkies will know why, and Charlize Theron is in it too another AD member. Then Will Smith's character, Hancock is this lazy, drunk superhero. That's not many characteristics you hear in superheroes so that got me excited and made me want to see this.

So the film started out exciting with this cool police chase on a California Interstate. What else is new right? Then Hancock who is completely trashed comes into the scene to save the day. Although instead of save the day he enrages everyone in the city of Los Angeles by causing millions of dollars in damage. Which basically sets up the story of Hancock a.k.a. John Hancock. The scene I described is in the trailer where Hancok throws a Ford Excursion on top of the Capitol Records building.

The delivery of the opening scenes by Smith and then Jason Bateman who's character is Ray Embrey a P.R. consultant, were great and the movie flowed very well and had Smith displayed a comedic performance within it all as well. But after Embrey (Bateman) convinces Hancock to become a hero that people adore and become nice, the movie isn't nearly as good and exciting. I really don't want to see a nice superhero. I want to see the hammered drunk superhero who is causing fights in the sky. That excites me so much more, but they don't listen and Hancock attempts to turn over a new leaf as he puts it. The movie just continued to plunge after that and then Charlize Theron (Mary Embrey: Bateman's wife) became more evident in the film and things just got rediculous and boring. I won't tell you what kind of an impact Theron has in the film but as you watch it you will start to get a feeling of what's going on with her.

All in all, this was a fun movie for about a hour and then it tanked. It still beats the hell out of The Love Guru though so it has that going for it. But it's your stereo-typical Summer movie with action packed effects and Will Smith who is a icon when it comes to Summer movies. But after you see it once you won't feel compelled to see it again. But you will be impressed with the performances of Smith and Bateman who are teriffic actors, but this was just a bad plot for the lost 40 minutes.

Again for all the Arrested Development junkies out there. In the movie, one of the characters loses his hand and he has a hook, the exact same one that AD character, Buster had in the t.v. show.

To think this skanky ass mo fo was once in the re-make of The Parent Trap which annoyed the hell out of me but still fun to watch as an idiot kid, and Mean Girls which is an all-time classic as the innocent girl is just stupifying. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

If this photo doesn't scream, I'VE SLEPT WITH 273 MEN AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT then what the hell are we doing here? None the less Lindsay, enjoy your 22nd B-Day. I will be looking forward to seeing your Post-Birthday Rehab visit in the upcoming issues of US, People and In Touch.

DVD Tuesday: Time to Drill and get a good Vantage Point

DVD Tuesday is always a day I make a trip to either Wal*Mart (I don't care if it's evil, I like $14.99) and Blockbuster to see the latest DVD releases. Today, I purchased Drillbit Taylor the Extended Survival Edition, it's an Unrated version of the film and probably the cleanest Unrated film I have ever seen. Has some good special features such as the fixture in all Apatow films the "Line-O-Rama" which is packed with fun lines.

When I first saw the previews for this movie back in the Spring I thought it looked funny but I was instantly drawn to it with the names Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow attached to it, and it didn't disappoint in my opinion. Many reviews I have read on Drillbit have said it was a total bust and a re-hashed story line. Are you kidding me? Kids getting tied up in a chair and pushed into a wall by a bully who has this freaky demon look all the time is not your typical re-hashed story line.

Owen Wilson was his usual self, being funny as hell and his delivery is outstanding. That guy can make basic sentences we use in everyday life and make it funny with his cool voice. "I get it" or "Your Unbelievable" I bet as you read that you heard his voice didn't you? And you knew exactly what I was talking about. He's great in this.

There were parts in the movie when you knew Rogen's influence was evident in the film and that's what made the movie more fun. Troy Gentile is the overweight kid in the film and he's hillarious. He kind of has an annoying Joe Pesci-esque voice that gets irritating at sometimes but I think he's a funny kid and has funny lines, and is great in his freestyle rap scene. I wasn't too fond of Nate Harley who plays Wade the anorexic dude with the glasses. He just didn't excite me at all. Just boring and didn't get me excited to see anything of his in the future. Then David Dorfman is funny as Emmit, you will probably remember David from such films as The Ring and The Ring Two. Emmit is a funny looking hobbit kid and Dorman played it well.

This movie is very funny. I enjoyed it in theaters and after watching it today I realized it was well worth the purchase. It's a funny film that you can sit down and watch with the family or a date. Just an all around fun film.

- Vantage Point
A star-studded cast and they all have a view on the assasination of the President. I'm definitely interested in seeing this one. Worth a rental to a Blockbuster or RedBox with a free code =)

- Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns
Rick Fox is in it. I'm a Laker fan and that might be the only reason I want to see this. Is it just me or does Tyler Perry have his name on everything these days?

- City Of Men
Haven't heard much of this film other than it's Portugese and it deals with two friends who lose their friendship in the midst of a gang war in their country.
